Can't think why you consider that you "messed up" your overflight photo's - these are absolutely brilliant! Just wish my body was "up to it" to be able to repeat the experience.
Re: 309th AMARG (pic heavy)
Wow great pictures
Re: 309th AMARG (pic heavy)
Cheers Warthog, they are ok if you don't try and zoom in too much, but l think the light just wasn't up to it so early. They did improve as the flight went on, but not quite enough lol
Re: 309th AMARG (pic heavy)
AMARG can only be photo-heavy... I love that Harrier - and the Galaxies and E-8s from the air!

Not sure how I missed these before. Absolutely brilliant record of a collection that's only getting harder to see from the air.
Some sad sights amongst those, particularly...."I see Dead Tomcats" in Area 27.

Do you remember what height the low pics were?
Thanks

Hence my comment earlier "only getting harder to see from the air." I read somewhere recently that the altitude restriction was being raised, approved overflight headings only, reduced slot-times for availability & a larger no-fly periphery clearance for DM airbase. Based on the clear detail of the shots shown above I had personally concluded these were pre-revised parameters?

Simply excellent.
I will be there next February - can't wait.
Your pictures will help me do some homework before going - please don't delete the post!
Did you fly with Double Eagle?
Is that the 747SP SOFIA peeking out from a shed at Pima?
Thanks for taking the effort to upload them.
Regards,
Ferrari

you dont really appreciate the size of AMARG, this set truly gives you a sense of the size and sheer number of types stored there.

Hi Ray2,
Thanks.
Well I think I'd like to know more about what it's like at the fence.
Would they tolerate a telescope on a tripod?
What's it like on Kolb road?
Did you have any trouble with local wildlife? (snakes etc.)
Double Eagle - how far in advance did you book?
And finally, how cool / hot does it get in February?
Many thanks,
Ferrari

Thanks very interesting set

Re: 309th AMARG (pic heavy)
Hi Ferrari, I went on a tour, so the overflight was booked by someone else, but I think about 1 month in advance. I used a camera along the fence, so I would imagine a scope would be no bother, not so sure a tripod is a good idea, just for ease of walking etc. We had no hassles along the fence at all, not even locals bibbing, which does happen, although you do feel like a criminal nowadays, but that's America for you sadly. Only wildlife seen were birds and ants, Kolb road is very easily walked, although it doesnt pay to go beyond the 1st bridge, as the fence rises up away from the road on concrete embankments, and then the yanks get twitchy I think. (Used to be fine before 9/11). In February, you 'should' be ok in T-shirt and shorts, but I would advise boots, Jeans and a hoody, just because of the cactus etc.Ferrari wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 6:40 pmHi Ray2,
