Geilenkirchen October 18-29

Post by Trout89 » Tue Nov 02, 2010 4:36 pm

During a.m. period of two weeks the Illinois ANG provided AR for the local E-3's.

First to arrive was 64-14839 as Reach 593, which is seen vacating at the end of runway 27

Aircraft number two arrived with 1 day delay, but I got her on departure on Friday

After the weekend number three arrived on a freezing cold morning

Later that week a NATO C-17 arrived to pick up some cargo for Afghanistan

Some extremely nice angles there - especially liking the C-17A! :thumb:

On a different note - I hope this isn't a sign that the USAF KC-135 is being standardized in terms of painting - it seems that 64-14839 has lost it's eyeliner since June:

It's already been seen that the 100thARW are doing it - I hope this isn't going to be fleet wide!

It would make sense - Saves on black paint for no real (operational) purpose.

That is what I understood the reason was - but going by that logic, why not remove all noseart (which the 100th have retained) to save paint too?

That's unit-level, they decide what they want to put on the based aircraft. Probably more apparent on ANG units as they may have members who work in the transfers industry, so they do it. Physical paint on the aircraft is done at USAF AMC level, so they units have no choice.

That's how I understand it to be, anyway :)
