Home of the Spanish SF-5M - Talavera la Real

Post by pako-2008 » Sun Mar 03, 2019 2:59 pm

At the beginning of February the Ejército del Aire at Talavera la Real opened up their doors for a couple of spotters days at the home of their advanced jet training wing. With a pair attending RIAT in 2015, an appearance that in my opinion was the biggest highlight from many a recent show, it was an opportunity not to miss.

Originally intended as a visit just for 4Aviation, the Spanish decided to extend this to a slightly larger group of invited spotters across a couple of days. The larger group did not detract from a fantastic visit with access to pretty much everything. The Spanish public affairs were incredibly accommodating to suggestions and then acting on the majority of them where/when they could. Their openness, management of enthusiast and hospitality was second to none, an example many PA departments could take on board for better experiences.

Anyway, here's a few shots from the visit:

Big thanks to the Spanish Air Force and 4Aviation for making it all possible.

Great shots, great facilities, very fortunate to catch this chance. :thumb:
Is there a back-story to the 23-01 jet underwing load-out?

Fantastic images, Spanish F-5s visited Lossiemouth way back, don't think they have visited the U.K often.
Cheers.

Hi Supra

Ala23 provided us with two static air frames showing what the jet is capable/was capable of carrying throughout its Spanish life. Purely put together just for the visit as a static exhibit.
Cheers

Quite correct with that, Ala 21 SF5b Exchange with 226 OCU Jaguars. I was fortunate enough to be 'loose' on the neighbouring 8 Sqn ramp when they arrived. A little negotiation for me to remain scarce during the formal welcome portion & they were all mine! Print film in those days! :'(
Thanks for the info pako-2008. Figured it must've been purely for the photo-shoot. It will be hard to beat that opportunity any time soon. :D
