Cobra Warrior Friday

Post by gary1701 » Fri Sep 07, 2018 9:23 pm

All,

Thought I'd made a mistake Thursday when I didn't travel up to Coningsby due to what looked like a poor weather forecast the previous evening, only to find out this morning that they all launched in some bright sun light. So when it clouded over this morning prior to launch and with this being the last day available to me I figured I'd blown it. Just about decided to hang around after they launched and the rain blew in, just in case the weather cleared behind for them coming back. Lucky me...for once!

The only EF-2000 to catch the light upon return, and it was the 'Steinhoff' jet!

All of 'Cobalt' flight found the light.

After that, it got dark again.

Excellent, it's all about putting in the hours to get the shots you want. These cloudscapes make the images much more interesting than a big block of blue behind.

As someone who was at the other end I appreciate how close this was to being a disaster photography wise... We got very lucky. One of them days I wish I could have been at both ends at the same time! All very nice..

If you don't go, you don't get. That 41 Sqn Typhoon looks great.

All those hours of waiting were worth it. Some nice flashes of light when they departed and the return light against the dramatic skies was great

It was a strange day, nearly all the seasons in one day, but getting the recoveries in sunshine was pure luck for all of us. Nice work Gary!

Hi Gary,
What a great day on Friday, the light was great for the burner shots when they finally took off.
Like you I nearly left, especially as the rain came in, I'm glad I didn't as when they recovered the cloud formations and side lightning made for some great images..

Great set but I really like the last shot.
All the best

Gents,

Many thanks and glad a few other people hung around at various points - there was only two of us left in the corner of the field at 25 when that lot came back in that light.
