Re: Going spotting at Ramstein/Spangdelham
Ramstein is OK from the Landstuhl side of the autobarn, the ridge/hill at Kinsbach gives good views of the transport ramps as does the Bismark Tower in Landstuhl (park at 49.405839385071985, 7.56106565921362 and follow the path through the woods to the tower). No hassle from these points as your well away from the fence.

Re: Going spotting at Ramstein/Spangdelham
Stopped off at Ramstein on Wednesday for a quick look to see if ought was flying.
I parked up next to the Great Escape memorial plaque which you can find on google maps.
It’s on the western side of the base and you can slightly see the ramp to the left of the runways.
Didn’t stay very long but got talking to a local who said the mil police do come out every now and again.

I certainly can't help with locations but if you're hoping for F-16s you'll be disappointed. Its been over 30 years since they were based at Ramstein - good luck!STRATO2003 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 2:19 pmGoing to Ramstein tomorrow and Spang on friday ,anyone been before tips or locations ect ,do f16's fly everyday ?whats police like with spotters ect ?

Re: Going spotting at Ramstein/Spangdelham
So was at Hundsback side of runway straight in hire car from the airport incredible veiw from there ,,,then at least ten Polozei minibuses showed up ,they parked right beside me and blocked me in the layby ,ten minutes or so passed i thought was all ok then they all got out of the vans and there were dozens of them ,arming and suiting up some in tactical type gear then 2 or 3 approached my car ,,Documents and ID we were ultra polite ,but they were a***les taking the pee basically the 1 who could speak English said the Font on my sons passport D.O.B did not look correct and basically held us untill they had it clarified over 20 mins until he got a phone call..finally asked what i was doing and just said plane spotting ,they said fine but no cameras pointing at installations on base .but planes in sky is ok,then the boss came along and said no spotting here today leave now !!.
Couldnt understand the fuss ,, then My lad checked ADSB and could see the 2 planes Vance was using coming from India put 2x2 together ,and yep he drops in to Ramstein that explains the police ,and they used where i was as a Muster point for the police patrols ,couldnt make it up we saw them throughout the afternoon at the Great Escape ,all across the park that end ,by the gates ect
alls well that ends well as soon as Vance clered off so did they ,so back we went just sat by memorial for the afternoon ,saw a P8 earlier from Sigonella) several C17'S (a charlestan and a stewart) Herky 43 and another in the circuit for a couple of hours an Atlas 747,its absolute non stop also couple of C5s and half a dozen or so globemasters on the ramp
