US Army at Carentan, Normandie, 3 June 2019

Post by Andy L » Mon Jun 03, 2019 8:39 pm

Hi
There is a US Army Helicopter detachment based at the racetrack at Carentan.
There are 4 x CH-47

15-08195
16-08200
16-08202
14-08168

and 7 x UH-60s.
20419
20398
20255
0-26707
20223
(20261) ***** This is actually 20281
0-26271

(When I've located my notebook I'll tell you the serials.) ah... found it
You can park at the racetrack and then just wander around outside the fence.
Photography is easy because the fence that has been put up has mesh wide enough to get a 24-105 or 70-300 through it.
The sun is directly behind you from about 1700 onwards.
Just be careful of all the jeeps that are driving around.

Happy Hunting
Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks very much for the serials. Shame I am not at La Haye du Puits this time, but there you go.

Would like to query 20261 as I haven't seen it reported as being one of those on the 3-1AVN deployment in Germany. Could it have been 20251 or 20281?

Many thanks,

Bob

Hi all

1. Yes it's the horse Race track

2. All my photos appear to show 20261, However on a couple of them it could be an 8 because of how and where it is painted on the tail.
The mystery will only be solved by somebody reading the serial on the right hand side of the aircraft.
Somebody will need to walk round to the far side of the racetrack to check it or catch it flying.
My bet is that it's 20281

Andy
