Hoping to go to Beijing in the spring of 2024. Although I have been to Beijing a couple of times I have not yet visited the China Aviation Museum which is a major omission on my part which I hope to put right next year.

Has anyone here been to the museum and got any tips?

I read that you can get a bus 912 from a station to the museum entrance.

I’ve been twice 1998 & 2015 but both times used a car & driver from the hotel but I understand it’s possible by bus and a walk down the entrance road. A tripod or monopod in the tunnel would be useful due to the light levels. I used a 300mm to photograph aircraft in the storage area but have seen that some visitors have given themselves a tour…. The gate was closed when I was there and I didn’t open it ! Any specific questions please shout, a selection of my photos are on Flickr.

From a civil spotting point of view I have only just realized that Beijing Daxing international airport is open and many if not most flights have transferred from Beijing capital to Daxing which is a shame. Anyone got any experience of spotting at Daxing?

A few people have used 'Johh Yellow Car' He has great English a good car and is used to taking westerners to the big aviation museum and the other aviation sites in and around Beijing, you can book him for the day or half day so he will wait around while you are in the museums. Assume he is still going, Google John Yellow Car Beijing.

Oh a holiday, i did the whole museum in 90 minutes of move, click move, but i did get some lovely shots, photographing everything there at the time.

A taxi from the hotel will take you right up to the entrace (which is all the way down a long taxiway). so worth the taxi taking you, waiting and taking you back to your hotel!
Make sure the hotel know where your going so that the concierge can give your taxi exact instructions.

Take water, and a towel to dry the sweat off you. try and get the junk yard, but in reality i'd say get all the 'rare' gear, making the chinese, and british built stuff a priority.

A tripod for the tunnel stuff on longer exposures will take some time, so build that into your trip too..... it's a long 'horseshoe' tunnel with access both ends.

Switzerland do it too.

And Sweden.
It's more to do with the topography of the country I think...
