European Shows 2012

Post by michael1970 » Sun Aug 21, 2011 10:25 am

Hi guys looking for a bit of advice. I'm planning to go to some European shows next year. My route would involve a ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam, then on from there.
Can you give me any idea on Dutch shows or others that would involve a couple of hits driving.

Thanks in advance

Michael,

Just my opinion, but I think you've got this the wrong way round. Instead of starting from the viewpoint "my route will be by ferry from Newcastle" I'd suggest you first decide where you are going and then look at the best way to get there. In the 70s/80s I used to do a lot of European shows by ferry. Even then it was almost invariably more effective to drive from the North East and do the Dover/Calais route rather than a longer and more expensive crossing. Of course, in recent years a budget flight and hire car is usually the best option. Elsewhere on this forum I recall Urkles has offered more advice in this area. I've done several shows this year by the budget flights option and one by ferry (largely for nostalgic reasons). The considered opinion by the crew was that the ferry trip was not the best way to do it and we should have done that by air as well.

Cheers,

MCB
