Closest European airshow to UK
Anyone experienced a one day trip to any european base or airshow?
Re: Closest European airshow to UK
Yes - Koksijde, Leeuwarden, Manching, Neuberg, Klein Brogle, Cambrai, Reims, Pratica di Mare, Albacete, San Jever, Bordeaux. What's your question?
Most of Belgium and The Netherlands are accessible in a day trip by car, and bases close to major cities or tourist destinations are often doable by Ryanair/Easyjet in a day - Though being close to London does make things significantly easier.

I can add Le Bourget (by car and by air), Hanover and EBACE Geneva. It is easy providing there are no serious hiccups in the tunnel or at the airport. However these are long days so if driving try to share the workload. Check your insurance is correct and vehicle kitted for Europe too.

I’ve done Berlin ILA as a day trip this year. Really good shuttle service put on for the show helps.

Not just that - also be familiar with the relevant driving laws, signs and speed limits. French single-carriageway roads are now 80kmh(50MPH) not 90kmh. The Gendarmerie tend to have little tolerance towards transgressors. Having said that, driving over here is a pleasure compared to UK (similar population but six times bigger and better road infrastructure).

Depending on where you live (access to STN is useful) and the flight times it is very possible to do day trips to further away european shows. I have done shows in poland/italy/denmark/sweden/germany in the same day, yes it is a long day but it has been worth it, alternatively the other option is a evening flight out on the Friday then back on Saturday with a cheap hotel close to the airport Friday night. In poland/slovakia/czech Rep it is possible to get a good clean hotel with breakfast for 40euro a night. Car hire can often be as low as £20-30 a day (often with a reputable company)
As most these shows are free (or cheap) to get in what you save on entrance tickets helps pay for the extra's.
