Their intended trip to Kleine-Brogel and Payerne is no longer on their official schedule... what a shame... would have been nice to see the colorful CF-18 over here.

A Fouga Magister from France added to the flying display
18 Aug 2014

The Fouga Magister is a legendary French-built training aircraft. The design was derived from a glider. The original version had a single jet engine on top of the fuselage. This placed the taail in the way of the hot exhaust, so it was decided to split the vertical fin, resulting in its typical V-shape. Later production versions, including the aircraft of teh Belgian air force, had 2 engines located on the side of the fuselage, but the tail design remained. The Fouga Magister was in service from 1960 and would serve until 2007. It gained fame with the general public thanks to the Red Devils and later with its elegant solo performances. Nowadays, there are only a handful of flying Fougas left abroad, in the hands of civilian enthusiasts.

Don't miss this opportunity to see a Fouga in the Belgian skies once again during the Belgian Air Force Days!

Another update today 19th August

Hungarian JAS-39 Gripen added to the static lineup :thumb:

The Saab JAS-39 Gripen was designed and built in Sweden, a country that, for the sake of neutrality, has had a thriving aviation industry for decades. With the Gripen, Saab now has a solid export success.

The aircraft is part of the latest generation of European combat aircraft, just like the Rafale and Typhoon. Unlike those two, the Gripen only has one engine. The aircraft can take off and land in a relatively short distance and has an advanced fly-by-wire system giving it remarkable agility. With upgrades, the aircraft should be able to serve up to 50 years and new versions of the Gripen are currently under development. Apart from Sweden, the Gripen is also operational with the air forces of South-Africa, Thailand, the Czech Republic and Hungary. It is the Hungarian air force that will present a static Gripen during the Belgian Air Force Days.

Another update today 20th August

Sukhoi SU-26 added to the flying display

Image
Sukhoi not only builds some of the world's best combat aircraft, they also have a firm reputation when it comes to aerobatics planes. The Sukhoi SU-26 is an aircraft that dominated aerial aerobatics competitions for years, thanks to its high rollrate and outstanding strength, allowing it to withstand -10G and +12G. During the Belgian Air Force Days, the plane will be flown by Swiss national Pierre Marmy on behalf of Swiss luxury chronographer Breitling.

Pierre Marmy became Swiss champion aerobatics 7 times but he has been living near Kleine-Brogel for several years now, so his demonstration will be a home game.

Bronco added to static
The Bronco is perhaps the most bizzarre-looking aircraft taking part in the Belgian Air Force Days. This twin-turboprop was designed as a light attack and observation aircraft that could operate from short and unprepared airstrips. It was first used by the United States in the Vietnam war.

The aircraft you will see in the static display at Kleine-Brogel is painted in the colours of the German airforce, where it was mainly used for target-towing in live-firing exercises. The aircraft is owned and operated by Tony De Bruyn and is stationed at Wevelgem airport near Kortrijk. It is a familiar and popular sight across Europe so it will be great to welcome Tony and his crew, together with his aircraft at Kleine-Brogel!

Update 26th August

Polish Mig 29 added to the flying display
At the end of the 1970s, the former Soviet Union was faced with a new generation of NATO-fighters conceived for air superiority. Including the F-15, F-16 and F-18. In response to this changed reality, they order the design agency and aircraft manufacturer Mikoyan-Gurevich to develop an aircraft that could deal with the NATO threat. The result of this order, the Mig-29, entered Soviet service in 1983, followed by other airforces of the Warsaw Pact and elsewhere a few years later. Contrary to the F-16, the Mig-29 has 2 engines instead of one and hydraulic controls rather than fly-by-wire.

Just like the Slovak airforce, the Polish airforce will participate in the flying display of the Belgian Air Force Days at Kleine-Brogel with a Mig-29, an outstanding opportunity to compare the power and agility with that of the F-16.

Update 27th August

German Typhoon added to static
The Eurofighter Typhoon is a joint-venture between the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain to develop an advanced multi-role combat aircraft. It first flew in 1994 and entered service in 2003. Typhoon is a name that is relatively similar in the language of each of the partner nations. While Italy is presenting one of its Tifones in flight during the Belgian Air Force Days, the audience will be able to see a German Taifun up-close in the static display.
The aircraft is a formidable weapon thanks to its advanced avionics, 2 powerful EJ200 turbofans and is exceptional manoeuvrability thanks to is its design combining a delta-wing with a canard, coupled with a fly-by-wire control system.

Update 29th August

Swiss F-18 added to static
The F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine supersonic, all-weather carrier-capable multirole combat jet. The Hornet has a very short reaction time from its alert position, very good aeroplane performance and flying characteristics and is able to accelerate extremely fast, reaching sonic speed within seconds It is powered by two General Electric F404 turbofan engines, which give the aircraft a high thrust-to-weight ratio.

The Hornet is used by the air forces of several nations. The main reason the Swiss Air Force choose the F/A-18 Hornet after a thorough evaluation was the top performance of this aircraft. Deliveries to the Swiss Air Force started in 1997 and were completed by the end of 1999.

Fighter Squadron 11 will send one of its F/A-18 Hornet to Kleine-Brogel to participate in the Belgian Air Force Days' static display.

According to the BAFDays twitter feed. The Joint Power demo will include A-400M, NATO E-3 Sentry and Dutch KDC-10 :Wow:

https://twitter.com/AirForceDays/status ... 16/photo/1

During the Joint Power Demonstration at the Belgian Air Force Days, there will not only be Belgian air force aircraft but also some foreign participants. Three of these will certainly attract attention because of their size.
Airbus will take part with an A400M, an aircraft which will replace the Belgian C-130s. The Belgian air force will take delivery of seven of these aircraft from 2018.

A NATO E-3 Sentry will also participate from its homebase at Geilenkirchen. These aircraft are used to detect aircraft at great distances and lead the intercept by friendly aircraft. These aircraft are used intensively at NATO's borders.

Finally, the Royal Netherlands Air Force will send a KDC-10, an aircraft used to extend the range of other airplanes. Belgian F-16s frequently rely on these KDC-10s during operations.
