ILA 2024
ILA 2024
I missed the last ILA due to it not looking too good with less static compared to previous years due to the 'new' airports increased movements.
Anyone went ?...and was it worth it ?
Incidentally I note the ILA site doesn't state a show venue at present.

Re: ILA 2024
Just to say the dates are June 5 – 9, 2024

I missed the last one - i think it clashed with something
Always has been a good show in the past with plenty of domestic mil present, GAF Typhoons and choppers sprinkled about. Plus the Gatow museum is not far away and they have opened up the normally off limits hangars.

Re: ILA 2024
I totally agree it has been a very good show 'in the past' especially for photography.
However I'm hearing that the last one was not a patch on the previous shows so I am reluctant to plan a visit without and 'good' reports.

Re: ILA 2024
Flipping heck it must have closed fairly recently
So Brandenburg is the only airport now

Re: ILA 2024
ILA is very much a shadow of it's former self now that Brandenburg is fully open, which really does restrict the flying display. I was there on opening day 2022 and the only interesting flying item was a Luftwaffe A.400. It may have got slightly better on the public days? Static was OK, lots of German hardware as you might expect, Italian F-35A, USN CH-53K & P-8; US Army CH-47F, UH-60M, AH-64E & UH-72A; USAF C-17A; F-15E & F-16C. But as said previously, lots of other good stuff to look at in Berlin including two museums - Gatow & the Deutsches Technikmuseum, and if you're mobile not that far away are the collections at Finow, Cottbus & Rothenburg.
Re: ILA 2024
Was the static as well laid out and as easy to photograph as previous years ?
I always found it excellent as opposed to the Paris a/s.

Re: ILA 2024
Sorry The Cat for delayed reply, hadn't noticed your post. I'm not really into photography so didn't pay that much attention to positioning. My recollection is that although there was a lot of available space on the ramp area used, some items were reasonably tightly packed, especially in the Bundeswehr areas. Manufacturers displays were a little more accessible. Flying display, such as it was, was to the south of the site so into the sun.
Re: ILA 2024
Many thanks Tangopapa for additional information.
I'll decide what to do early in the New Year.

Re: ILA 2024
So I'm planning to go this year and will stay at an airport hotel very near terminal.
Did they do a shuttle bus from terminal and back to show last time ?

Re: ILA 2024
Don’t know about the last edition, but before I used to fly into Berlin in the morning, and back home in the evening. Shuttle bus driving through the day

Re: ILA 2024
That is exactly what I did pre COVID - the dedicated buses go from right outside the terminal at Schônefeld - I can't remember the new name
Bit of a queue/bundle at the show entrance for security but no more than 20-30 minutes

Re: ILA 2024
For 2022 we arrived by car, car parks were located at the old Schonefeld terminal with a shuttle bus to the show site. There were other shuttle buses running from other locations, so could easily have been from the Brandenburg terminals. Won't know for sure until tickets go on sale I would think.
Re: ILA 2024
Many thanks for replies, all sounds good.
Re: ILA 2024
Looking to organise going to this. Can anyone recommend any good hotels and any other aircraft related places to visit in and around berlin?

Re: ILA 2024
Aviation related I would recommend the Technik Museum in Berlin and the museum at Gatow.
And for infrastructure, the former airport at Tempelhof is (in my opinion) quite interesting.
Depending on which day (and by which transport) you want to go to Berlin, on Saturday is Armed Forces Day (Tag der Bundeswehr).
Fassberg (near Hamburg) and Holzdorf (south of Berlin) are open to the public, with an airshow.

Re: ILA 2024
I am staying at the airport which will be easier to get to the show and you can see movements.
Also it is much better to visit on a trade day (first day Wednesday) as far less crowded and much better for static photography.
Museum at Gatow is good as mentioned but the other side of city to ILA show.

Re: ILA 2024
Do you need any certification or anything to go in on trade days or just buy a ticket?
