Duplicate posts
Duplicate posts
I'm not sure if Adam (Zymurgy661) is aware, but when some members have started a new thread (this seems to only happen in the Heads-up/OTT section) then 2 or 3 duplicate threads appear on the forum within a couple of minutes, this has been happening regularly over the last couple of weeks.
Re: Duplicate posts
It's due to the posts 'hanging' when people are hitting the submit button, leading to them thinking their post hasn't gone live and hitting the submit button again.
I've tried my best to keep on top of merging threads and deleting duplicate threads, but it does appear to be happening more often as time goes on.
It's a bit of a strange one, usually when this happens the whole forum runs slow, but it seems to be soley related to the posting of new threads. Hopefully Adam can take a look soon.

Re: Duplicate posts
Thanks for that Sam, that explains it nicely. I've also noticed that it happens to posts within threads too and it just seems to happen in the OTT section - I don't remember seeing it anywhere else.
Re: Duplicate posts
I have seen it in other sections, I think its just that the Heads Up ones are the most used.
Re: Duplicate posts
Thanks Sam, I hope it's fixed soon as it's rather annoying!

Re: Duplicate posts
A work around is to hit the back button after the error message appears and then go to the home page etc rather than reposting/resubmitting the form. It appears that the post is successfully created and the error only appears when the system is trying to redisplay the new post.
( Could be an issue with the parameter not being returned correctly after an identity insert statement)

Re: Duplicate posts
You don't need to wait for the error message if it hangs, just hit Submit and then the back button - hey presto - it's posted anyway!

Re: Duplicate posts
Let me know if it happens again from this point, thanks
Re: Duplicate posts
Post still hangs but does post, the Internal server error still comes up when trying to display the post submited.

Re: Duplicate posts
Tried something else, lets see if it still happens.
Re: Duplicate posts
Didn't work! It still comes back with internal server error.
Tried it with Edge in case it was google, but same result.
It only happens when posting a new topic in the heads up section. I have tested a few others and they seem to work okay, very strange.

It's happening in other sections too, not just the OTT section :- https://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/ ... 8&t=177671

Re: Duplicate posts
I often get a bad gateway message after creating a new thread or appending to an existing thread ( Edits to an existing post seem ok). The post has been created and the error occurs when your post is being redisplayed , so I simply hit the 'back' button and return to the section heading where the new post can be seen to have been created. If you re submit the post it will create a duplicate.
( Edit : it didn't happen in this section for this post!)

Re: Duplicate posts
Happened to me last night, while posting on "UK Heads up" & had to delete duplicated posts.
Re: Duplicate posts
This is happening again, have noticed lots of duplicate posts in the last couple of weeks and when clicking 'Submit' when posting it then takes about 10 seconds for the new post to appear.
Re: Duplicate posts
This is happening again Adam, plenty of double posts every day.
