Probably for the Apache - I have them down for another week until the 5th April. They've been working most days I think on the range in the mid afternoon, linking in with Otterburn, and working through until the mid evening. In fact one flew over Hexham just a short while ago at 21:30 or so.
Generally they seem to have been a singleton and a pair, and last week there was some flare trials early on - of which I will post a piccie or two soon!

Hi Chris yep I had a few late afternoons up there over the last two weeks. Got hundreds of shots to go through when I get the chance. Went chasing the apaches last week down at the far eastern end great the usual closeness where you can nearly touch them. Might go Monday as I'm in Carlisle and will be passing tea time on Tuesday on my way back from Manchester.

Today Tuesday the 19th June, was a Tornado GR 4 day at Spadeadam

11.40am Fang 1 & 2 GR4s first 10 minutes medium level above the clouds, the last 10 minutes
low level, Fang 1 requested Smokey Sams and was given coordinates for the S/Sam site approx
2 miles to the northwest of Wiley Syke. The 2 GR4s were flying about 1 mile in trail and after
Sam launch flew low level adjacent to Wiley Syke.

12.10am Marham 11 entered the range and flew the same low level provile as Fang 1 & 2.

12.15pm Voodoo 1 & 2. 2 GR4s these GR4s were targetting Lewinski and threats at the eastern
part of the range departed at 12.30pm

Break for Lunch.

13.45 2 U/I GR4s FRA east to west and departed to the north at low level.

15.00 Monster Conbine at medium level to the south of the range, I heard
them but never saw anything.

A question for (Catkins) Chris does the below broadcast mean Air Activity or does it
mean firing ammunition ie shells up to 12,000 feet.
"Spadeadam All Stations Otterburn Active up to 12,000 feet".

Sorry missed this as family loss recently has diverted attention. Easy answer is . . I don't know.
But if I was guessing, due to the 'All stations', I would say an army exercise using a little bit of everything including heavy artillery possibly AS90 across the range - but was this Otterburn advising Spade or Spade putting out general warning? Not sure of maximum ordinate height of AS90 on the relative short distance of Otterburn, but you certainly wouldn't want uncontrolled low flying aircraft as the AS90 often fire from the SE corner up to the NW impact area of the range to give maximum distance. But as I say, I'm guessing so hopefully others may correct me!

It means if you intend to fly over Otterburn, you'll have to be over 12K, as the army are probably firing artillery pieces.

Posted on Notams Jamming Trial at RAF Spadeadam from 07.00am to 20.00 hours From 6th, August 2012 to 10th,
August, 2012. Within 3 NM of 5504N & 000234W.

A question for the experts does this mean there is no flying on the range whilst the trial is on.?

Amazing Comms today Tuesday 11th September, whilst at Warton I could clearly hear the comms between
Spadeadam Range Control and 2 Danish F16s DAF 3272 & 3273 flying at various heights whilst doing EW.
Also heard Lossie 46 on Range.

I know I had a few people mention a lot of aerial activity over Tyne valley /Tyne Gap in the afternoon, so I wonder if it was the F16s - I was further east and heard / saw nothing!
It's been very quiet over the last few months in Tyne Gap area and trips to Spade are very hit and miss - like the decline in retail sales, I blame the Olympics . . . not!!

Log for Tuesday 18th, September, three Thursday Boys at Wiley Syke today.

I arrived at 11.00am Medusa 54 on the Range at 15,000 feet operators engaged in EW with
ground control on Spadeadam. We could hear the drone of engines but aircraft not visible
due to cloud cover.

11.30am Medusa 54 RTB Waddington.

1140am Tornado GR4 Monster a singleton, we were treated to a FRA followed by low level attacks
on various targets on the range and most of the runs were south to north all 250 feet or below.

2hour break for lunch

14.00 Scarab 54 we think it was a King Air again same EW work as this morning again at 15,000 feet.
in the same airspace but at 16,000 feet to 30,000 feet was a Typhoon Leuchars 28 at first we could'nt see the
Typhoon until the pilot started aggressive manouvrering and then contrails started to become visible.

15.00 2 Tornado GR4s Monster 1 & 2 arrived for low level EW work.

Lossie 98 a Tornado GR4 flown by a female Pilot was on Otterburn engaged with an FAC on that range.
