Its not an exercise at Llanbedr its the Valley Hawks that are based this week as the National Eisteddfod is on Anglesey so they are temporary based there for the week.

Last 2 days at Otterburn have been garbage, no sign of things American. Considering the size of the areas Notamed in the Borders area, we have seen precious little of the US Navy.

2 x SH60 US Navy Seahawks into Carlisle Airport around 16:15 until 17:15 for fuel. Had apparently been on the range at Spade for a short period. I don't know why as I couldn't make it. They headed off to Aberdeen then off shore back to the carrier. I missed them by seconds leaving the airport unfortunately.

What a bummer for you. That would have been an epic catch. Spent a boring, non event, of a day at Otterburn, and at one point considered jacking it in and heading to Spade. Another "If Only" day.

Ex. Saxon Warrior eventually reached RAF Spadeadam with a Royal Navy Wildcat operating in an observational / control role to the edge of the range while 3 or 4 USN F-18 Super Hornets rotated above and simulated attack on a LZ near Berry Hill. Shortly after a pair of USN SH-60 Seahawks arrived very low to the LZ and briefly operated in the area, before passing low eastwards over the Irthing gorge (not in). The RN Wildcat operated on the southern edge of the range, changed position regularly, presumably in response to threats created by RAF Spadeadam. The F-18 provided top cover for the Seahawks and then departed north upon completion of the Operation.
The helicopters all then departed to Carlisle airport for refuelling and then headed north, in the case of the Seahawks, to a Scottish rendezvous with the USS George W Bush.
Luckily, this all for once happened in sunlight and despite a low heat haze it was good to be able to watch the mainly distant interoperability Exercise.
