Good Morning all,

A quick report from what I caught of first days JW in Spade.

Around 11:00L 'Voodoo36' (ZA369) showed up operating in the block 7 to 18,000ft. On initial contact he gave his JW mission number and was told to contact 'Centurion Control' on 315.475. With all the excitement I accidentally put the wrong frequency into my scanner and nothing was heard....always check basics!!! What i did hear on 241.825 was he was to be a 2 ship but was on his own due his playmate gone tech. He gave his simulated weapons load and then was passed grid references for targets by JTACS. 'Im seeing a kidney shaped lake with a black car and a lorry with a triangular radar on top of it' etc etc. He departed to RTB Marham at 11:30L.

During the rest of the day various 'Cutthroat' call signs were heard, 37, 1&2 (2 should be XX258) and 03 (XX332). 1&2 simulating Tornados and using 128.725.

Around 16:00 'Ascot 116' Herc ZH878 did an overshoot at Carlisle airport before going en route to the North.

Now that the French are at Leeming for Griffen Strike it would be nice to see them on the range this week.

Regards to all,

Thanks Geoff, and let's hope the weather clears for the two Ex. using Spade and for someone to hopefully catch some low level photo opportunities ... though I wouldn't be surprised to see most traffic keeping medium-high level, cloud or not.
Cheers
Chris

First on the range was 'Cuthroat 07' Hawk XX332 at 10:05 operating surface to 10,000ft and operated for around 45mins. Around 10:30 a message was heard that F16s and tornados had cancelled. The weather was pretty bleak all day with poor viz. 11:05 and the arrival of 'Cuthroat 37' Hawk XX258 simulating a GR4 again operating medium level 6-9,000ft.
At 14:25 a message as heard that all sorties cancelled. At 15:15 C27J MM62221 c/s 'Lupo' 98 Gruppo Italian Air Force entered the range for some EW on R208. Taken from the box his height was 4,500ft. He called Carlisle Airport to say he would not be overshooting, as was plan, presumably running late. At 16:15 he departed the range routing Pole Hill, Shawbury to Brize. It is taking part in an Italian AF ex in North Wales.

Once again, many thanks ... your report at least gives an idea of what might use the range as and when weather improves. Cheers, Chris
