crazyhorse 1

Post by jindivik » Thu May 19, 2011 6:12 pm

Crazyhorse 1 was on the range today at 15.45 ish, asking for the co-ords of the barge, had 3x paveway 11s inert stores plus a laser designation pod, made a dry run on the target then a live run, suffered a hang up of store and requested to divert into Valley, after burning off fuel in D201 before recovery into Valley PAR to land

Just back from a week in Wales which included a trip to Valley on Thursday.

The jet with a problem was a 29 Sqn marked Typhoon.

The tail carried the letters BP but I haven't confirmed the serial yet. It was a new jet and callsign for me.

BP should be ZJ811.

I've been listening to Aberporth today, can pick up a reasonable amount from my location in Aberystwyth.

I've got the following Frequencies:

RANGE 133.5000
RANGE 376.6000
RANGE INFO 119.6500
RANGE P 282.4250
RANGE S 340.4750

I've not heard anything from pilots on the range so much as traffic transiting the range, what other Freqs should I be using? Listening to my logs I'm getting a lot of chatter on 282.425 but I'm only hearing one side of the conversation

Cheers

Whilst the aircraft itself "belongs" to 29 Sqdn, they have been mixed up between Squadrons for some time now.
The callsign Crazyhorse 1 tells us it was on a 17 Sqdn mission - evaluating systems and procedures etc. It also tells us there was a Crazyhorse 2 somewhere in the scheme.
With the recent Middle Eastern activity the Typhoons appear to be pooled.
