60163 Tornado in Oxfordshire on Valentine's Day

Post by davem » Tue Feb 23, 2016 3:14 pm

A change from the norm for me, but thanks to a tip off I was able to shoot LNER Peppercorn Class A1 60163 Tornado pulling "The Red Rose" on a round trip from London as it passed by just west of Ascot under Wychwood. Not the greatest choice of angle and the wrong choice of lens but I'll know for next time!

Thanks all, much appreciated.

Rich, I cropped it to portrait as well but it didn't have the same effect.

Dave, it's a 1D4 and my first outing with a 300 2.8 (2 years' worth of birthday/Christmas presents to myself!). I should have stood about 200 yards further back up the road to get a more 3/4 angle view and used the 70-200 but I just wanted to play with the new toy!

in all honesty the shots are spot on if i was going to go for a steam locomotive i would want it under load and at a shallow ish angle like you have got with these shots

great shots ,as for wrong lens you need two camers a long lens on one and a wide on two and work very quickly ,but you have good low angled shots if you have a fast bike you could catch it again
