2nd Quarter of the year

Post by Ross Forsyth » Thu Jul 04, 2024 7:29 pm

Hi folks,so with the year half way through already I thought I`d post some images from my 2nd quarter of the year, except this time not confined just to the local park, but all within Scotland and still mostly in Edinburgh.
Things quietened considerably at the local park due to the heavy rainfall we had which resulted in the river rising and bursting its banks towards the end of May! It couldn`t have happened at a worse time with Kingfisher nests being destroyed aswell as the local fox dens being flooded out at just
the wrong time resulting in no cubs at either of the 2 dens I have watched the last couple of years sadly.
Anyway others have still managed to thrive so on we go.

9/Our 2 local female otters were showing well at the beginning of May,hoping it looks like 1 of them should be having pups anytime,Edinburgh

19/June Started really slow for me,was really struggling for my mojo after realising we had lost any chance of Fox Cubs and KF`s but finally headed out just for a walk and caught this guy making most of the out of bounds marker on the local golf course,Roe Buck,Edinburgh

20/Bee busy at work,Edinburgh

21/Marmalade Hoverfly,Edinburgh

22/A new vixen for me but again sadly no cubs around,Edinburgh
Image

23/Fledged Kestrel Chicks, not all was lost when i went to check another den site when I caught sight of 4 newly fledged Kestrel chicks which allowed some great photo opportunities,Edinburgh
Image

24/Still got a bit of down on this 1 but man it was feisty when the male dropped off a freshly caught Swallow and it grabbed it! Edinburgh

26/And to finish the first half of the year some of these guys,Edinburgh

Thanks for looking and if you managed to keep viewing all the way down then thank you.

Cheers
Ross

Ross, these are simply some of the best wildlife photographs I have seen. Despite the terrible situation with flooding there is still a lot to see.

Many thanks for posting and keep up the good work. Looking forward to Q3 post already!

A superb set of photographs there Ross. Every one a gem. The pic of the Goosander chicks is just lovely, and the Osprey is nicely caught, looking over its wing. I like Ospreys! I'm told there are eight birds regularly fishing on our local River Lossie.

Thanks man,and yep spent some time up photographing the Ospreys on the Lossie couple of summers ago with some success, definitely a nice way to spend afternoon watching them work their way down the river towards the town on the hunt

Wonderful wildlife shots there. I know just how much patience and dedication it takes to get cracking shots like that - or indeed, any shots of those subjects. The Roe Buck and Ducklings are the outstanders for me. Well done.
