Skye in May, mainly birds & other aerial phenomena!

Post by davem » Thu Jun 06, 2024 12:44 pm

Our now annual early May holiday on Skye provided some great photo opportunities with some stunning birds.

The pair of Great Northern Divers caused dinner to be delayed one evening while I grabbed a rather rare chance to get 2 summer plumaged and calling adults in the same viewfinder at the same time on Skye).

We were for once in the 'right' place and struck lucky with the Aurora although having to look south for the Northern Lights was rather strange - it was the first time we'd ever seen them though - if only it had got darker earlier!!

The Corncrake was a final day surprise as it ran out of the road in front of us and proceeded to call from someone's front "lawn" for 10 minutes before skulking back off into a ditch :O :O

Fabulous photographs, well worth the trip I'd say.
There's a great piece on Red Throated Divers on Springwatch (one of this weeks episodes I think, sorry can't remember which one)
worth a view on iplayer.
Thanks for posting.

Great captures Dave  really enjoyed looking through these.
Must get across to the 'isles' - furthest for us this year so far has been Hadrian's Wall

Great images, Thanks for sharing, we spent many a happy holiday on Skye over the years, we pass through now every year on our way to The Outer Hebrides.
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!
