My Local Park first 1/4 of the year already

Post by Ross Forsyth » Tue Mar 26, 2024 7:14 pm

So living in Edinburgh I`m extremely lucky to have a fantastic location for wildlife photography within 10 mins drive of where i live, namely Saughton Park and the Water of Leith which flows through the heart of Edinburgh and exits at Leith.
The year has started quite well despite the fact that we started the year with 2 Otter cubs left from 4 born to 2 different females and lost both of those early in January,we don`t know why as both appeared very healthy 1 day and a couple of days later 1 had disappeared and the other was really struggling, some sort of poisoning looks likely as a fox was also seen in the same area very ill and had to be put down! Not a good start but nature has a way of bouncing back and fingers crossed we will see more otter cubs in the summer with the females currently being courted by a big dog otter currently.
Anyway on with the images

2/Kingfishers have been great this year so far

3/Our latest "resident" in the park has been this female Kestrel, although not as regular as she was at the start of the year she still pops in for a visit

17/And sorry for the Kingfisher overload but they have been posing brilliantly the last few weeks!

19/Another pellet being expelled but facing the wrong way from me this time lol

20/And just ready to expel the rest of the contents of its bowel before flying off

Thanks for looking

You’re efforts have been well rewarded with that lot, great shame about the Otters, hopefully they will have better luck with the next lot.
