Playing with animal AI and electronic shutters.

Post by davem » Tue Sep 27, 2022 10:47 am

Having read a lot about "rolling shutter distortion" when using an electronic shutter with fast action I decided to try it for myself ahead of a weekend photographing the Cross Country at Blenheim Palace Horse Trials.

Pleased to say that Pixie, the mad Collie, was the perfect model and put the gear through its paces just as I had hoped. From what I can tell, and the following 2 days equestrian action, it has very little or no noticeable effect at all

The one downside of the electronic shutter? FAR too many images taken, but there's the delete button for that isn't there.

I think you’d see the effect more with fast panning with objects in the background. For instance trees behind a moving aircraft.

Also with slow speeds and propellers from certain angles.

I’m still using mechanical shutter until I figure out what real world effects I can see. Need to shoot some GA as a test I think.

Dave, Looks like your R6 is working well there....

I agree skippyscage, my R6 is fine with nature pics, but panning on fast moving aircraft with a high shutter speed generally results in slanting buildings and trees etc.....hopefully some firmware will come out soon to correct it....
