As far as I recall there would be a lot of infrastructure to put back at Honington to reactivate for full flying ops.

Re: Scampton to close
From earlier years at Scampton, RAFAT have a number of constraints which impact operationally on a very busy station, including block timings for movements. Some units 'may' be more receptive to this than others.
Alongside this, when they moved from Scampton in the 90s, Leeming was discussed. One concern raised was the proximity of the A1 in terms of extra potential RTA, this may be a discussion point for Cottesmore too.
Conscious that Lee had F3 and Cott had Harrier, but they didn't impose the timings and fascination as the reds.
Another point is the feasibility or proximity for a R313 type airspace and any knock on effect.
Much to muse...
Nonetheless, sad to see any relocation out of bomber county.

Yeah, re-installing a runway for a startNighthawke wrote: ↑Tue Jul 24, 2018 2:04 pmAs far as I recall there would be a lot of infrastructure to put back at Honington to reactivate for full flying ops.
Re: Scampton to close
I lived in Scruton (2 miles from Leeming ) in the 80s when the Red Arrows were either based at Leeming , or spent a lot of time there. Nice to get the odd free display but no real impact on anybody, frankly., let alone the A1 . The Tornadoes' later arrival created enough (sound) waves for some nice man from MoD to give me new double glazing and a decent cheque . (not compo culture! we all got it offered pre emptively by MoD )
Re: Scampton to close
The Reds moved to Scampton from Kemble in 1983.
Re: Scampton to close
They have said they are looking at all options including civilian.
How about Doncaster / Sheffield or even Humberside.
That way they can still practice in the skies they are use to.

I drive past Humberside airport on a frequent basis and noted the BAe facility there; unaware of what they do there though.

Please....newer hawks would be ok, they are still the best team out there, but how about a new British built aircraft.
I think the release mentioned a much more modern base, maybe they are planning to take over Mildenhall when its handed over

Re: Scampton to close
Oh dear, Oh dear.
Scampton to close, its just another cost cutting exercise by the government. No more major airshows in Lincolnshire and the Red Arrows going?. If not the Reds need a new home with clear airspace above to practice. Otherwise they may be pushed into normal service as advanced trainers. Its a shame as Lincolnshire is the home of RAFs bomber county, and a new memorial just opened near Lincoln/Waddington. Lincolnshire is steeped in WW2 bomber history with lots of old airfields in the county, and each airfield told a story, not just Scampton.

Re: Scampton to close
Would the Reds use Humberside as a home, as they are in some respects just a ambassador and commercial advert for buisness for the UK, and not operational as a fighting force until needed. The transit time to RAF Scampton would be low and having BAE facility, would aid the trainees, and the Reds.
