My Red Arrows Emergency Diversion Guesstimates !

Post by Rhubarb » Sun Oct 16, 2022 8:05 pm

These figures are my wrough estimates using an ordnance survey 1: 250 000 map book. They are meant as a rule of thumb guide only to make my point !
DIVERSION STATS
Based on no fire cover at the practice site
A aircraft has a problem but can maintain 200mph flight for an unknown period
Emergency straight in landing clearance at a fire equiped diversion site is available.

Scampton area 313 with closed runway. Diversion to Waddington avoiding overlying Lincoln about 4 minutes
Syerson to Waddington diversion about 8 minutes
Donna Nook to Humberside about 8 minutes
Syerson to East Midlands about 8 minutes
Syerston to Cranwell about 7.5 minutes

Finally Scampton to Scampton with open runway and fire cover 60 seconds or less !

I have excluded Waddington as the practice area as it would interfere too much with other operations at the base. Also l believe that the people of South Lincoln would not put up with it.

If I was a fast jet pilot flighing hi G moves within meters of another jet, I know which of the above I would prefer ! But I'm not !
"A Rhubarb" is a sortie of opportunity !

Probably why they’re moving the practice area to Waddington
