runway closure
Hi last year it was announced that Northolt would be closed for several months in Spring 2018 for runway works. Is this still going to happen?
Re: runway closure
last I heard, closure for fixed wing aircraft has been put back to July.
So resurfacing can happen when its frosty and then will have to be resurfaced again in a couple of years, either that, or so there will be weather delays and the contractors will require more money.

Re: runway closure
From memory, runway was due to closed between the end of April to October.....This has now been delayed to end of July, apparently to accommodate the upcoming visit of Trump to UK,although no one seems to know exactly what part of the country he will arrive at/go to!

Possible related to this story News from Biggin hill
Flying clubs have been issued notice to leave by the autumn, the increase in exec movements some 23% and safety concerns are the driving factors.

Re: runway closure
As posted under Benson last month, a contact in the RAF has told me they are not now expecting the BAe146 to relocate to Benson until 2019.
Re: runway closure
The Government has now placed the contract for the resurfacing of Northolt's runway next year, starting in the spring and expected to last until the autumn, although no specific dates are available yet.

The announcement again confirms that the military aircraft (presumably the BAe146) will relocate to Benson for the duration of the works.

Re: runway closure
From the South Ruislip residents association, meeting minutes of 23rd January 2019
"Sq Ldr James Tenniswood.
Runway resurfacing.
It needs resurfacing, last done in 1977. Needs to be repaired to continue as a military airport. The runway will close between April and October. It will be dug out completely and will be drained properly and improve the arrester beds. Work delayed as the previous contractor was Carillon who went into receivership.
The runway will remain the same size but at pains to point out it might look slightly longer due to the increased size of the arrester bed."

Re: runway closure
When the runway works start, the based 146s are due to operate from Benson, no surprise there.

Re: runway closure
As Northolt has previously said that the military flights will relocate to Benson, with a helicopter shuttle to and from Northolt, I'm hoping this includes the foreign VIP flights all coming to Benson, as well as the BAe146 ! We will find out shortly.
Re: runway closure
Roger,
It seems these days that the foreign VIP flights turn up anywhere, be lucky.

Re: runway closure
Most stuff goes into Farnborough or Luton now anyway.Think they got fed up with the reduced operating hours and buggerred off.Be interesting to see what happens when it reopens if operating hours will be increased and weekend operations again. Not holding my breath though
Re: runway closure
One can hope
Re: runway closure
Re-opening has slipped already, Tweet from Northolt:-
"RAF Northolt will close to civilian flights at 1700 local time on 5th April for approximately 7 months for essential runway work. We aim to re-open on 11th November, although this is subject to change."
