Another slightly annoying feature is that the ICAO address ( hexcode) is stripped from some? Messages

For example search today on RCH861 - finds some messages for the C-17 10-0215 routing out of Prestwick to UTDD Dushanbe, Tajikistan - hexcode AE4D68 : However a search on AE4D68 returns zero results??

ICAO search is currently not functioning correctly. Kevin (The one behind airframes) is aware and it is on his list to fix. He's been focusing on the backend, and creating a new frontend to make it more stable.

I am warming to airframes.io

The ini search criteria is quite useful plus the static page does mean it isn't constantly refreshing which can make it difficult to read messages. The key item is that people who know how, are feeding in data so a big thanks to them for their contributions

Useful:-

The above link is rather USAF orientated

I did a live stream last Friday (Pacific) again.
It went really well and as usual there was a ton of really solid ACARS knowledge exchange.
We don't record the live streams. To that end I'm thinking of doing some solo stuff and recording it. As much as I don't like videos, I am thinking it seems others do like them??
Just me mono-logging about how the site works. This WONT be how to USE the site to do osint, I don't (cant) do that.....

My question is, what day and time would work for our Euro / UK avgeeks?
I think Friday night is great for USA, its around 6pm West and 9pm East coast.

I'd really like to stream at least twice a month. once for USA and one for Euro.

Chime in.

Good evening,

Thanks for the update, must admit I wasn’t aware of the livestreams but that sounds like a great opportunity to get to know the site (presumably you mean airframes.io?)

Personally I couldn’t really commit to Fridays for live sessions but would be able to do a couple and definitely would watch recordings if they were available

I (perhaps incorrectly) felt that most here were Euro/Uk/IE based. Hence asking the question what time would work for that time zone.
Friday night PST (PDT) is midnight or later UTC, so never expected it to be an option.

I took a straw poll on the first 2-3 live streams and everyone agreed to not record them.
We felt we could talk more openly when not recorded and the whole purpose of the live streams was for me to interact with my site users more.

No, I'm talking about my site, not aiframesio.

At the risk of sounding daft but when you say your site are you talking about acars.adsbexchange.com because that address doesn't work?

Ah I see, understand where you are coming from now thanks for clarifying!

In that case Thursday evenings tend to work for me as I am off work earlier and childcare is more straightforward too, say 7pm UK Time. Again that’s just me so others can hop in and add comment but typically with work and the kids, evenings in the weekday are best.

As for the livestreams not being recorded that makes sense, it’s good to have a frank and open discussion sometimes not being hampered by something on record so I can understand why not.

I would echo the question from slogen about your site, I certainly would be interested to learn more about it and how to use it but if at present it isn’t live I was unsure hence the query re airframes.io

7pm is around 10am or 11am in California. I have a day job, so that wont work. I cant take an hour or so off work to do the stream.
I had a feeling that would be an issue. I need to find a weekend time slot which makes it a lot harder for everyone.

A very kind person has thrown me a life line and my site has been moved to a new host, so we are not as dead as when I had to pull the plug. At that time I did not have a new host or anything.
Right now I am taking the forced down time as the perfect chance to shuffle stuff around and try and find and fix the site sluggishness.
Its going well, but I need more time. No ETA for the reboot.
You can read some of my comments about the site reboot and some of my thinking and avgeek feedback here: https://nitter.net/thebaldgeek/with_replies
(The 'with_replies' is important as we often get into a conversation as a thread vs a post - also that link is on the front page of my Github)

Last weeks live stream was about going through the site page by page and finding out from the folks on the stream which pages I should keep and which ones I can delete. (Less pages makes for a faster site).
As I sad, I don't use the site, so I have no idea what the pages are about. I know from a table I have on the backend which pages are the most popular, but nothing beyond that.
Perfect example, most on the stream had no idea about the aircraft avionics equipment list I had started building. As such I was going to chop it and the stream burst into life with a whole bunch of people saying they had no idea it was there and I must keep it and keep working on it.... it was quite the reaction and made me sad yet again that so much of my site was unknown/unused... Hence me thinking more live streams might be the answer. Duno.

Just to let all the UK/Euro folks here know, I plan to try and make the most of my day off tomorrow and plan to do a live stream at around 10am PST, thats about 6pm UTC.
I know its not a normal Friday, but hopefully some of you here can make it onto the stream at that time.
I plan to just talk about the site, what's on the pages, how some of it works etc. Just a a rambling 'fire side chat' as I like to call the streams.
Comment in the text chat area or better still, unmute your microphone and lets talk about the site, what you like and what you don't like.
URL posted here and on X tomorrow when I am either live or about to go live.
@Eagle130, hope you and some others from here can make it for at least some of the stream.

Thanks for the update, apologies for never getting around to replying to your last post!

That should be possible to join even for a little while, hopefully chat later then 👍

Thanks for that, could only stick about for the first 40 mins or so but really informative and great to see how the site is coming along for V2.

As ever, really appreciate your time and effort with this project, hope you have a great festive period and a happy new year, looking forward to what the next few months have in store

Thanks for those that could join up.
Really great energy and awesome feedback.

The stream went for 3 hours, so a tl;dw is hard to come up with.... But here is my best attempt....
* some go from ADSB to ACARS
* some go from ACARS to ADSB
* making the site flexible to allow avgeeks to come to or go from either data source is key.
* I can decouple my site from ADSB data a LOT more than I expected.
* happy to report that my 'a log file is a dead file' mantra is held near and dear by many others. To that end, I can remove all the Gantt charts and long tail tables from my site.
* ACARS search is the key. Bolster the search page more than any other.
* Do not duplicate any data. Even if I get asked to tweak it just a little, if its the same. Don't. Ever (yay).

Of course all that is open to input. Let me know if you feel otherwise.

That all sounds good to me, just before I left the stream the conversation was around those duplicated data values and how the original site had to load all the pages even if you just wanted to use the mission codes page for example.

I would say that the struggles I have come across with the airframes.io site have really proved how important a good search tool is, I had really taken for granted the fact that I could just search a hex code and all the relevant messages would come up. So yeah definitely onboard with the extra effort for the search page!

I’m sure I’ve said this before but for me the two most important pages were search and then the mission code table. So my query- would it be possible to expand the mission code table to include other information that others are requesting such that there is essentially just 1 table with more of the historic “summary” data and then another one with the search tab that allows you to get a higher fidelity look at things?

I have seen on the link to the discussion you posted a few posts ago that there has been talk of having a more detailed site and a summary one, not sure if that’s still on the cards as that sounds like firstly a lot more work for you and secondly will definitely contravene the no duplication of data format. Had there been any movement on that front ?

Other than that, really insightful stream (the bit I got along to at least!) and thanks again for taking the time

A more robust site search is one of my primary focuses for the new v2 site.
A quick bit of background since you mentioned it... The v1 site will remain frozen. I am not going to add new features, tables or pages etc.
It will be re-launched (weeks?) as soon as I find and fix the main 'disconnected' error (in the top right of the site).
I am not going to ever get to the very bottom of the timeout errors, so it will just be an 80/20 case. Fix 80% of the errors and call it good enough.
The core reason for all this is because the Node-RED code base that the v1 dashboard is built on is no longer supported or maintained.

Which brings me to the v2 site.
The Node-RED team has started work on the v2 dashboard. It runs on the same core Node-RED, but the v2 dashboard code is all new.
The main thing that every one got on the stream is this.... the v1 site can never be made to be 'responsive' (change sizes to work on any size device - PC, laptop, tablet or phone), but the new v2 will at some point.

To answer your question, I have tried in the past to keep and maintain 2 sites and it was too much work.
The way however that the v2 site works is not a duplication of the data or work.
Yes, some core pages will be duplicated, but given that the v1 will never be updated it will be the stable site and v2 will be up and down often as needed as I improve it.
My un-known time frame goal is to remove the v1 site once the v2 has parity.

So, bottom line, trying to get the old site back as soon as possible.
Some pages have been removed, but the core is there.
The v2 site currently has 3 pages, mission code, military movements and site search.
It will not be released till its more functional and this is not under my control, but the core Node-RED developers.

I spent a few hours working on the site search today. Its looking very good.
We have text, AND text, NOT text and ICAO search of the last 48 hours of ACARS messages up and limping.

The stream but scratched the surface for ACARS and some ADSC.
Going to try and see if a weekend stream time might work going forward.

I've noticed that searches on airframes.io aren't returning any messages dated later than around 0700z yesterday (26 December). Has anyone else noticed the same?

Yep I had noticed that too, glad it’s not just me!

I had half assumed it would just be a lack of messages due to the Christmas period but it would appear not

I'm looking to do a live stream around the 31st / 1st.
Want to do a bit of a launch party.
What time works for folks here? Throw out some UTC dates and times.
Im going to ask around and try and find the most common date and time.
