Nice shots mate I must admit, I do love the scenery, really good for the price Its a shame they gave field textures etc to the Training Area's around England, so VFR Horzion beats it there, but FTX performs alot better on my PC Looking forward to the Wales and Scotland packs!!

Thanks for the heads up Andy - having looked and through the shots again and again, I'm gonna have to admit that I'm just a boring old git that wants 'reality', so while the 3D objects look great, the FSX roads etc running through the middle of fields and houses would really grate for me

Perhaps they should have sought a conglomeration with Horizon and ES Treescapes for the best of both - that way they can have trees where they should be, actual VFR scenery depicting where town and roads physically ARE and hence buildings can be placed where buildings should be rather than in generic places... Or am I asking too much?!?!

The plain is not represented unfortunately (it's the same fields as you might anywhere else).

All the 'cityscapes' are Lincoln, airfields - especially the localised Photo backgrounds - are VFR Airfields (UK2000), there may be some additions due to FTX, I'm not sure.

I actually find the roads on the generic textures more of a distraction than the real life roads. There is one texture with a distinctive roundabout which looks a little out of place!! overall I think it looks very 'typical' of England. I don't mind photo scenery in general, the odd heavy shadow or random textured cloud is offset by the fact it's real (or it was at some point in the past - using tile proxy helps to alleviate this issue to a degree) and is full of new places to explore. However if you want seasons you have to forgo all that!

Yes, quite disappointing that the ranges/TA's are just fields especially when the plain is such a large chunk of 25x10 miles. I misunderstood the scenery by the looks of it, i thought it was photo scenery but re-done to make it look more real rather than the horrid colours on Horizon. So, thinking that they actually used satellite or photographic imagery was my bad.

Just what I was alluding to. Would rather have no objects and know that the (flat) town actually exists as depicted by the photo scenery rather than the artists impression of it as seems to be the case with orbx

It is not just improved photo scenery. It's generic scenery and autogen based on detailed vector land classes (this area is forest, suburbs, moorland, inner city etc.... ) plus roads, rivers and a detailed coastline and elevation mesh. Its a copy of the world made from data, rather than a photo of it.

To be honest I'm surprised a feature as large as the plain got missed. I may take this up with the developers for a proper answer.

So in essence, perfect for fixed wing flying but useless for those who wish to fly rotary at certain field sites etc. As for example, myself and Oli (and LowlevelRAF) fly proper sorties at field sites (official fields) and going by what you have said, it's just the OrbX developers hand crafting their own fields of what they think will be okay onto the mesh/landclass and do not represent real locations, real forest locations and the like.

So for example, if we wanted to fly to a certain forest to do confined training, it wouldn't be in the same location and there wouldn't be clearings shown as in the Horizon scenery.

I was really hoping this scenery was based on reality as my system struggles with Horizon - blurries big time - and memory spikes etc when i have treescapes.

So i guess i'll have to stick with Horizon.

If a computer struggles with horizon and treescapes I wouldn't bother trying any of the orbx products!

It looks very good, and I'm tempted. I already have their New Zealand package which is amazing to fly in.

The forest it likely to appear in approximately the right place, but fine details like the location of a particular clearing are not likely to appear. There appears to a mixture of forest areas which appear to match large real world woods, and texture based autogen trees, which match the generic textures used.

If you want to fly to a particular clearing, Horizon VFR + Treescapes would be better.
