Help with Low Level sighting M74 this morning

Post by Tiger 1 » Thu Nov 08, 2018 6:31 pm

Good evening everyone.

I was not sure where best to put this... so Mods please move if needed.

I would like your help please with the following sighting.

I was travelling up the A74 this morning between Moffat and Lockerbie at 09-10am and caught a glimpse of an aircraft at low level between approx 250 to 300 ft.

It passed over the M74 coming from the West and headed East.. it caught me by surprise and I only got a quick look at it but it appeared to be light in colour possibly light grey with a large tail fin pretty much like a C130 but not as big.

It's puzzled me all day... so I was hoping that some of you guys may be able help.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

There have been two RAF hercs based at Prestwick this week, doing low level all over the place. There was one up at the time you mentioned. I have seen in the past, green RAF Hercs that look grey in certain lighting conditions. If it was a short one, C5, you may have seen the 50 year special scheme airframe, with the light blue tail.
No one gets out of life alive.

Maybe a Shadow R1? https://www.raf.mod.uk/aircraft/shadow-r1/

They occasionally get spotted doing low level.
