Re: Rolls Royce wins contract to re-engine B52 fleet

A Buff person on another forum says they're expecting a protest to be filed but not because the award's been made to a non-US company.

Re: Need some more help...

The ring bound "United States Air Forces" book from around 2003, or something with a similar name? A5 size roughly, black cover with large yellow text?

Re: US Air Force considers buying the E-7 Wedgetail

Boeing needs all the money it can get these days - if the USAF wants to buy some Boeing aircraft it'll offer what the USAF wants.

Re: Fuel prices

A couple of thoughts: The tests in the media seem to only ever consider whether super unleaded gives better MPG than regular unleaded, completely overlooking the power increase it can give. I've got a 3.5L V6 petrol engine and super unleaded makes a huge difference in the acceleration and power, tha...

Re: Rolls Royce wins contract to re-engine B52 fleet

That's not what I said :( This engine was designed by BMW Rolls-Royce AeroEngines GmbH, which was as a UK-based European firm. It may have been owned by the multi-national RR PLC, but it started life in a very small, independent UK-based design office with no connection with the larger, multi-nation...

Re: Rolls Royce wins contract to re-engine B52 fleet

An engine designed in Germany for a British company, that'll be made in America. The days of America seemingly only buying American must be fading.

Re: B-2 damaged on landing at Whiteman AFB

The War Zone web site is very good at producing articles with almost no content isn't it......

Word on the street is there was hydraulic malfunction, the crew declared an IFE, and upon landing one of the main gear collapsed and the aircraft ran off the runway.

Most of the Airframes left behind had been disabled and had internal equipment stripped out to varying degrees.. I think they might struggle

Re: RAF QRA Question

I've seen a few interviews and speeches by Colonel Tillman, who was the AC of AF1 on 9/11. An incredible chap who had to determine for himself that he needed to immediately flip from being a 'routine mobility pilot' to a defensive warrior when the threats to AF1 starting coming in. It can't have bee...

9/11 is remembered with a ceremony on most USAF bases every year, I wouldn't expect anything different that you'd be able to see from outside.

Re: RAF to scrap E-3 Sentry this year

Any aircrew are expected to maintain their flying currency up until the day the funding for their aircraft disappears. Sometimes easier said than done, but where there's a will aircrew will find a way.

Re: Spotting

"They" can tell you to move despite you being on "public land" when there's a risk to your safety as much as when there's a risk to their security. In those situations, the base has a duty of care to ensure people on public land are not exposed to known above-normal risks. The Benson DAM talks about...

Re: FALSE PING - VC-25A 82-8000 AF-1 E/B off SW Ireland ??? [PP]

I think it's too easy to become too focussed on just the data these days, although my assumption is that the people who share raw data do something with it in the background. Documenting the schedules for routine flights, calculating the frequencies between swapouts, and finding relationships betwee...

Re: FALSE PING - VC-25A 82-8000 AF-1 E/B off SW Ireland ??? [PP]

The 'hobby' has changed over the last few years making this kind of disinformation a rouge state, a conspiracy theorist, or a prankster's dream. An increasing number of people in the AvGeek world seem to be happy to just post information or screenshots they've seen on a web-based tracker, or to shar...
