Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2023 General Discussion Thread

I've been searching Twitter and so far found that it appears the Gripen E from SAAB won the Paul Bowen Trophy (Best Solo Jet Demonstration) and the SK.60 won the King Hussein Memorial Sword (Best Overall Flying Demonstration). Can't find any others though, so far. And these I did find aren't confirm...

Technically, the whole event is a “waste of fuel” but we don’t complain about that do we?

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2023 General Discussion Thread

I always like to do my own Awards before the official RIAT awards and mine are taking shape already. I must say, as evidenced by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDCPXNUvTls that the Belgian F-16 display might possibly be the best fast jet demo I've ever seen by any air arm or type. A big...

Interesting proposal from FRIAT to stop the carnage of 100% bag checks You will have hopefully seen the email that came out last week regarding the 100% baggage checks we will be carrying out this year at the Customer Entry gates. To help speed this up the lanes will be marked no luggage - hand lug...

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2023 General Discussion Thread

I think you're both missing the point of the post. What I'm saying is: It's fine to think its a great line-up but it's also fine to think it's a poor line-up! All i'm trying to convey is let people have an opinion either way! Neither view is wrong but let's let people have their opinions without bei...

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023

Err, it hasn't finished yet! Technically anyway-no idea on what weather is up there.. Herc flypast I'm guessing was after the Falcons landed? Which is traditional after a Falcons display. The fact that the Hercules was part of the display was an achievement in itself. Can't remember the last time t...

Re: Posting near real-time verbatim military comms to the www.

Genuine question here: I can remember when me and my dad used to sit and listen to the police radios on whatever radio equipment was available in the early 2000s but then as far as I was aware they moved to frequencies people cannot access on their radios - why don't the military do the same?

Re: The General Question Thread

With regard to Q1 as far as I'm aware they always use the "live" 2 jets for any scramble and I think I'm right in saying that the crew never know whether it's a practise until they're airborne. It might also be worth knowing that there are usually 4 aircraft allocated immediately to QRA Ops with the...
