Re: 25 Years of F15E strike eagles at Lakenheath
In addition, the F-15Cs are to get conformal tanks, and be re-winged, with two extra hardpoints.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
I was at RIAT on the Sunday when the weather closed in before the Swiss team could display. The Swiss team commentator did a sterling job keeping the crowd amused and described the teams return back to their hard standing as a Close Formation Taxi Pass". Big cheer as they went past. Looking forward...

DM screenscraper is running a bit slow today. The amount of years out of date 'news' on that site is embarrasing.

Re: SR-91 Aurora
SR-71 was killed financially. When the project came from the Black world into the White one, the USAF had to pay rather than the CIA. The USAF got little benefit from the programe and all the costs. The backers in the Pentagon who were ex SR-71 had retired, and the knives were out from others who co...

Re: SR-91 Aurora
When Ben Rich retired from Lockheed, he said they had 6 Black Projects currently on the books. The pulse detonation phenomena has been going on for years. I strongly suspect that a replacement exists.

RAF Woodbridge
An informed source advises a C-17 will be into Woodbridge this week for trials. No day confirmed. Further to the A400M trials, Germany and one other nation have made overtures to make use of the 'rough' runway for future trials. There is a feature film about to be made on the South loop at BW. I und...

Re: SR71 tales
Col Graham and his charming wife came to Bentwaters earlier this year for a tour and to give us a talk. When they came to leave, around 10pm, Col Graham was unsure of his way back to the A14 in the dark. I have the dubious claim to fame that I have acted as Navigator for the Commander of the 9th SRW...

As you say, Andy, much has changed. It may be that Uncle Sam wants to keep extra tarmac in England. Better the devil.

Re: Mildenhall closure
I was talking to someone with connections. Apparently closure is no longer certain. The relocation is currently $151 million over budget, there are no shelters for the Ospreys, and flying in Germany is restricted to so many hours and so many days in the week. Apparently it varies each day, so quite ...

Unusual activity at Mildenhall
Leaving the Hall today after a scheduled visit, around 3.30 there was major police and ambulance activity at the main entrance gate, centered around a foreign registered truck. 12 Ambulances and cars, plus numerous Police vehicles. Anyone know what was happening?

Don't know about cuts but we have just ordered 9 Poseidons and 50 Apaches, so good news for Boeing.

Re: A-10 Warthog will return to Bentwaters!
I have passed you comments up the chain of command. We get quite a few serving guys come for a look around inside a building that is 'off limits' on their home bases. Regrading NMUSAF, we are required to send an annual renewal/return report on the airframe. Providing we do not do anything not permit...

Re: A-10 Warthog will return to Bentwaters!
The wings moved on Monday, All went smoothly with the move, and the transporter did not hang around. Our official photographer had a game catching up after photographing the departure from Alconbury, and only managed to get ahead after they stopped at Risby. Apparently the only real problem was thro...

Re: A-10 Warthog will return to Bentwaters!
Hi Fires.
I can't confirm anything about friendly fire. AR and WR birds were loaned to the Gulf, but AFAIK, no pilots were involved in action. The move will be a low speed, and will involve at least one stop. Beyond that, I can confirm nothing.

Re: A-10 Warthog will return to Bentwaters!
There is NO confirmation yet as to the movement of the A-10. The reason being the police, haulier and BCWM do not want a media circus, or the roads filled with onlookers. This will be a very wide load as the outer wings and tail have been removed for transport. The load will be and under escort. It ...

Re: Walkrounds-guide
Hi folks. Another good source of walkarounds can be found here. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/forum/83-walkarounds/ This was set up because the guy who runs Prime Portal was unhelpful. Julian, who runs the walkaround section, is a good friend of mine. If anyone has any good additions...

Re: Lakenheath Ladder needed?
In the viewing area, if you put your lens up against the fence, you can shoot without a problem. I use a 300 or 450 zoom and never have a problem, you image is clear of the chainlink. Never bothered with a ladder anywhere.
