Re: Tempest to fly faster than the speed of sound
B-21 looks a lot like a small B-2... not sure you can draw the conclusions you are about tech and stealth from looks alone. That Tempest resembles 5th gen suggests 5th gen capability, perhaps with an added fancy cockpit and swarming / remote capability . That is basically the selling point of sixth...

Re: Upcoming UK Orbital Launch
I don't know when the licence applications for the launch operator and satellites were submitted, but in the case of the Spaceport licence, the application was submitted around October/November last year with the CAA stating that the application process would take between 6 and 12 months. The proces...

Re: Canon R7 focusing
Just a quick question for anyone and perhaps Jason given his US experience, has anyone managed to find a way around the problem of bending stationary vertical objects when tracking aircraft using the electronic mode? I understand why it does it but its a fix that's badly needed. In simple terms for...

Re: Upcoming UK Orbital Launch
AIUI the rocket needs to be taken back into the hangar for the fairing (and payload) to be integrated. The launch is likely to still be a couple weeks away at least. As it's the first launch at Spaceport Cornwall, and Virgin Orbit's first away from home, all concerned are understandably not rushing ...

Re: Airshows and climate change
Based on figures released by Bournemouth and some quick calculations, the fuel used by all aircraft throughout their show outputs approximately the same amount of CO2 as the average new car would after driving roughly 44 million kilometres. In the grand scheme of things, compared to the sheer number...

Re: Canon R7 focusing
The R6 Mark II was announced last night and some tweaks were made to the subject detection so you can now specify aircraft as a subject for the vehicle tracking mode. Based on what happened to the R5 and R6 when vehicle tracking was launched with the R3, this may trickle down to the R7 with a future...

Re: Canon R7 focusing
The vehicle tracking mode is really tailored for cars and bikes. It can work with aircraft but there will be hiccups - I've found (at least with R5/R6) with airliners for example it likes to specifically pick engine nacelles as its subject. Seconding the recommendation to map the back buttons to qui...

Re: Predannack Airframes Removed
That was already the case for a long time with Jetstream ZA111 positioned at the Culdrose fire training area. Since its move to Predannack (and subsequent removal) there's been no replacement and I don't believe there ever will be - they have dedicated training rigs alongside the two rigs at Predann...

Re: Predannack Airframes Removed
Another large part of it was that most of the airframes in question were long past it and heavily deteriorated.
Not sure what you mean by this? This will then make viewing at Culdrose difficult.

The satellites will be integrated onto the rocket at Newquay. I'm not sure whether the fairing's in with the rocket or not.

The C-17 is due into Newquay (and just requested the METAR and TAF for Newquay), so it'd be a change of plan if it did.

Re: The Ukraine Situation
Isn't strange in 1939 we waged war against a far-right Nazi power and with the help of our Russian allies we overcame them in 1945. How the tables have turned we are now supporting a far-right governed country with learnings towards Nazism fighting against our old allies who helped us stamp out Naz...

Re: POTUS to the UK
The Japanese Emperor is to attend, so probably a return of the B777s. That will be a very unusual and welcomed visit. Has a Japanese Emperor visited UK since the not welcomed visit by all of Hirohito in the 1970's? Akihito visited in 1998. Naruhito was expected in 2020 but the visit fell victim to ...

All, There is more to this than you have discussed. Take a look at https://www.pprune.org/aviation-history-nostalgia/648645-cahc-closure-more-ac-losses.html There are a few more facts on there for you to consider. There isn't, really. The lease expiring does not mean the lease cannot be renewed. An...

Hunter down off US East Coast
Just recieved a report that ATAC N337AX has crashed off the coast of Wilmington, NC. Reportedly heard on GIANT KILLER on http://LIVEATC.net. Looks like N344AX circled the crash site for some time and is now RTB. FLYTRON10 and CPS11 are also in the area as well. https://twitter.com/TheIntelFrog/stat...

Yes it does, because, as I said, focal length markings are not changed to suit different sensor sizes!

Re: Canon fit lens for static displays?
Yes, EF-S will only fit crop sensor DSLRs, but the 1.6x crop factor still applies on EF-S lenses just as it does on EF lenses, unlike what you stated in your initial post. By saying the 10-22 is equivalent to a 16-35 I'm saying that if your APS-C body was a full frame body, the angle of view you'd g...

Re: Canon fit lens for static displays?
No, the angle of view of the same focal length lens on an APS-C body will be the same regardless of whether the lens is EF or EF-S. You will indeed get a wider field of view from a 22mm than a 24mm, because it's a wider focal length, not because one is EF-S and one is EF. The 10-22 is equivalent to ...
