Those French F-8 are beasts How on earth did they operate from French Carriers which weren't exactly in the Nimitz class for size? Remember they operated off Essex class carriers which were slightly shorter than Clemenceau and we operated Phantoms off Ark Royal which was also shorter than Le Clem ;...

Given they are our nearest neighbours it's hardly surprising that my collection of slides from the French armed forces are contained in 2 volumes. Many of the air force fast jets were covered a while ago but this series will cover the remainder, plus transports plus Army and Navy assets. Any errors ...

At Duxford you will find you need to work out where the light is in relation to your location and shoot down sun if possible. Prop blur in the air certainly no higher than 1/320, less with a steady hand. AI Servo is the focus mode on a Canon. Unless it's raining cats and dogs I won't normally go up ...

Re: constructive criticism please
Well they look OK to me ;) You can worry too much about the "perfect" photo but the first question you should ask yourself is "Do I like them?". If the answer is yes then it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. But if the answer is no you need to compare them to photos you really like and ...

Re: Honington monday 11 july 1983, just a morning at the fence.
I agree with Nighthawke nothing wrong with the MTL3, cracking bit of kit in its day. Fuji 100 is a lovely film too, however scanning it is the tricky part ;) It does tend to scan with a colour cast even when the slides look beautiful! Mind you most films do. Don't be afraid to do a little experiment...

[/quote] I saw the Greens perform @ Wyton's Open Day in '84 and have a b+w photo but this colour shot is much better so many thanks for posting. Do you mind if I save it for my collection? What a shock it was to see what they really looked like in the flesh tho' (see pic no. 7)! No different to us, although for those Czechs they insisted it was beer o'clock at 0830  The greatest leveller was seeing the Russians in the diner provided for crews and volunteers. The amount of food ...

Going to Airshows in the 70's and '80s you dreamed about the "opposition" and what it would be like to see Migs and Sukhois and the like. Then suddenly it happened and the early 90s saw an increasing number of visitors with a variety of types we never thought possible. Finally finished scanning and ...

Re: Working up to 70+UK ?
Pension was never forced at 65 you were always allowed to work on. You could take the pension or defer. Sadly those who campaigned for pension equality thought that the age for us chaps would come down to that of the ladies. Unfortunately, while there pension increased the age came up to meet ours a...

Re: Tiger Meet Cambrai 1986
Nice one Harold, the Spanish F.1 Mirages looked so good in that scheme. Had never realised that there had been a Mirage 1V 'Tiger' Sqn. Very nice scans as well. Fisherman, the Mirage IV wasn't from a Tiger Sqn. IIRC it was a Porte Ouvertes held during the Tiger Meet, there were a few none tigers th...
