Re: Further MOD base closures

There is no plans to close lakenheath No platform or station is safe from closure or movement. Put it this way, back in 2010 Cottesmore and Kinloss were both safe and then came along SDSR 2010 and took out the Harrier and Nimrod fleets. At that stage luckily the Army were coming back from Germany; ...

Re: Mildenhall could be out of bounds to us all

Well said Tronks. Some people should remember that 'spotting' is a hobby and it does not only exist because of a certain group of people who like watching, spotting and/or photographing aircraft. There is now a whole new group of people who use the hobby to track movements for clandestine reasons; a...

No houses have been demolished at Brampton, all the SLA has gone under the bulldozer but they have not touched the SFA, most of these houses already have non-military personnel in them.

Been on the cards for ages. Don't how the Intell World will see it though as they will be just over the fence!!

Must be a spate of applications at present because another has just appeared near Peterborough seeing the demise of Sibson Airfield - http://www.sibsongardenvillage.com/

Remember that the latest round of base closures still does not bring the MOD to their £1b SDSR15 figure. Bet there will be at least another announcement before too long; so time will tell.

Re: MOD Sell Off

Henlow has a very active civil flying club. Lets hope that within the sale / housing proposals the airfield and flying operations can be protected. Doubt it. If the land goes, it will be everything within the boundary. Even if it does, and they build loads of houses, the new occupiers will try and ...

Re: MOD Sell Off

From what I have heard is that the Colerne/Azingmur Barracks sell off had come as a complete surprise to those there as they learnt their fate from the BBC Doubt that as there would have been a three-line wipe mandatory meeting for all. If there wasn't then the Stn Cdr/Stn Comdt has a few questions...

Re: MOD Sell Off

It's a little confusing as later it states RAF Henlow to be sold off?! I can't imagine selling the golf course would achieve anything as it's between the Hangars/accommodation and the airfield. Local news and rumour indicated a potential 750 houses to be built on the site, so who knows! It's the wh...

Having seen them in action, both loading and unloading, I doubt if photos are fake. Normally get them in the bay between Frejus and St Agulf in July and August.

Great piloting skills in sometimes very difficult conditions.

Re: A400M Trials at Woodbridge

Rough field training for aircraft to check ability of 'soft' surface landing capability of A400M. Soil structure at Rock Barracks, ie sandy sub-structure, gives testing capability below the minima of the aircraft. Looking forward to other grass landing training elsewhere once this is completed :whis...
