Tutor

Saw a Tutor flying today at RAF Church Fenton, first for a long time - probably getting them ready to move out...!

Todays BBMF Spitfire flypast is for Garforth Golf Club - can't see it happening because of the wind but fingers crossed.

Re: Notam for 22/6

The Help for Heroes event last year had a Spitfire Mk V flypast, it was a showery day if I remember correctly - there's usually stalls and attractions for the kids and some flying although I don't know to what extent - it used to be held at RAF Church Fenton but I was told that the organisers though...

Re: Notam for 22/6

2x Merlins through Fenton yesterday - not totally unusual but it would be nice if they were doing the flypast at Sherby!

Re: YUAS/Families day

Were the Falcons really scheduled to jump from a Herc? Would have been nice for a flypast once they knew the jump had been scratched!

Apologies for the quality but didn't even have time to put my boots on (photographed from garden in socks!).

Re: 13/6/13 Solo Red

I saw it - around 1400, departed north. Not the first time I've seen a solo Red Arrows schemed Hawk circuit bashing at Fenton but always nice to see. I thought I saw on FB a short time ago that Red 10 was flying a black Hawk so perhaps nothing more sinister than airframe exchange/rotation with Leemi...

Re: YUAS/Families day

Not quite as billed - the Typhoon and T-6 displays were very nice though.

No Spitfire, no Tornado (yet), no Vulcan, no Sea King, no Chinook, the Falcons hadn't jumped prior to the rain although it has just stopped/brightened-up again so fingers crossed.

Re: YUAS/Families day

To be honest the rain now looks like it may arrive a little later than originally expected (BBC forecast) so fingers crossed. Barriers were put up on the airfield yesterday to fence-in the public and the grass was cut (main gate spruced-up too).

Re: YUAS/Families day

Weather forecast has taken a turn for the worse after looking reasonable on previous days bulletins :(
Can't see the Falcons jumping or the Spitfire turning up if the forecasted the wind speeds are to be believed...

I suppose it could be looked at in that way, or perhaps it could be seen as being neighbourly. I know from experience that crowd management is a pain!

Re: YUAS/Families day

We had a notice pushed through the letterbox warning of increased aircraft noise on Friday and listing the aircraft types likely to attend. Top marks to YUAS for that. No mention of the Vulcan although I have heard from two unrelated sources that it will make a brief appearance (fingers crossed!).

Re: YUAS/Families day

Hi Steve, Yes, I saw the Spitfire too - right over my house, sounded great! There is a crash gate just a few hundred yards closer to the village which I seem to recall has been opened up before and a cordoned-off area provided although this may well have been before the viewing area was created in t...

Re: YUAS/Families day

Steve: There's a viewing area on the southern perimeter which would put the sun behind you, great for photos (it is tiny though, 3 cars and you're stuffed). If they're using rnwy 06 there's a patch of grass beside the crash gate just next to the threshold or the cricket field across the road. If the...

It was nice seeing them join-up over Eggborough first instead of just suddenly appearing from behind the trees - great topside by the Hurri on departure (only wish I could take a half decent photo!).

Re: Church Fenton to close by years end

http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/selby_tadcaster/9658180.65_homes__planned_for_RAF_Church_Fenton__airfield/ Planning permission for 65 homes being sought for RAF Church Fenton already although it appears to be earmarked for the old technical site which hasn't been used since the FTS was closed. This...
