Re: Flypasts, old and new.

Probably the Coronation review 1953 at Odiham. https://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Coronation_Wings.html?id=CiwNAQAACAAJ&redir_esc=y Interesting! I wasn't aware Eric had written this, albeit a while ago. For those that don't know him, Eric Bucklow is/was the guy the organised the tours around th...

Re: Flypasts, old and new.

It has to be the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain flypast in 1990, traveling between airfields to catch up with all the aircraft including spares, and then watching them come over Abingdon 1990 Battle of Britain airshow will live long in my memories. I was also at Abingdon that day, 168 ai...

Re: Korean C130s on route

Were they freighted last time? When they came over to Waddington in 2012(?), the T-50s arrived into Manchester by Korean B747F and were then roaded out to be rebuilt. The only Korean Air aircraft they will fit in is the B747F (they need the opening nose, the B777F side cargo door will not accommoda...

At 1 point they were scheduled for Manchester Airport. Anyone have any details on this?
They were due into Manchester on Thursday 19th, presumably on their way home from whatever it is they are doing?

58-0057 (as "RCH857") went into Mildenhall, I think 58-0067 (as "RCH809") which was close behind it also went into Mildenhall, but I didn't pay that much attention to be honest. The 3rd and 4th ones were showing as 62-3566 (as "RCH866") and 57-1441 (as "RCH841"), both of which looked to be headed fo...

Re: C130J 11-5736 Accident

My database (Planebase) is hedging it's bets and going with "stored at Ramstein - Damaged beyond economical repair after a hard landing". I guess it will be sat on a ramp somewhere at Ramstein, probably minus some bits?

Re: Dark C-32B inbound to Manchester

I remember the "good old days" in the 80's and 90's when there were always Saudi Herks kicking about, and quite a few Canadians used to pass through too. Saudi KE-3As too, I went onboard at least 1 of them!

Re: AVIANO F16 to LN Today

Some of the AV are using HAS plus I thought you could only see them from the A1065 opposite the golf course ( Just read above that Italian EF2000 are rumoured to Frisian flag - is still the case ? Sounds tempting ) Italian EF2000s and Tornados, as well as RAF Typhoons for FF, to replace the lack of...

Re: Germany To Purchase Up To 35 F-35 Stealth Aircraft – Reports

To flesh out my answer above a bit, the whole point of the initial plan to buy Super Hornets was to replace the B61-capable Tornado. But, although the legacy Hornet is nuclear-capable, the Super Hornet isn't, or not yet at any rate. The Navy didn't need it certifying (they removed the tactical nucle...

Is it correct that the decision to buy F-35s to replace some of the German AF's nuclear-capable Tornado aircraft is because the F-35 is cleared for that purpose, whereas the F-18 and/or Typhoon are not?
yes

The webcam has obscured the police apron for a good few years and is simply to stop the local yobs knowing when the police helicopter is on the deck so they can't try and set it on fire (again).
Did not know that! That's quite a reflection on the youth of the Eccles/Irlam environs!

Re: Manchester Barton 15/03/2022

Unclear if these are still present (although MSF had reference to a NOTAM valid until 2200 on Tuesday 16th), but the West-facing Barton webcam has a suspicious-looking black block obscuring the police apron at the heliport, which would suggest something is going on! https://www.cityairportandhelipor...

LOG: Nairobi - JKIA March 2022

Morning all, I was fortunate enough to spend a few days last week working at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, Kenya. An interesting place! On arrival in the early hours of Tuesday 8th March, the Northside military ramp contained 3 C-27J's, assumed to be the 3 Kenyan AF machines (222), (...

Surprised no one has asked when they will do the loop yet  Apart from Waddington, Coningsby & Leeming being the main venues for this exercise. Spadeadam range will see a lot of involvment. Out of curiosity, is it possible to get close to this place for pix? I've never been there before, the lo...

Great photos, absolutley loving the variety, much better than grey fighter after grey fighter.
Although the F-16 looks fantastic in the (very grey indeed) "Have Glass" scheme!

Re: RNAS Culdrose/HMS Seahawk

RNAS Culdrose is still very much open - It's the land base for the Navy ASW (HM.2) Merlin fleet (the "Jungly" HC.4s are based at Yeovilton) as well as the "depth" maintenance facility for, as far as I am aware, ALL Navy Merlins, whether HM.2, HC.3 or HC.4 standard (actually I'm not sure if there are...
