Re: RIAT 1985 Flying display list.

I won't be going as it bores me. That's my choice. Saying that, I think it's important to remember that 99% of the people paying for tickets to RIAT are families on a day out. They aren't really the people who look at aviation bulletin boards or know how many pounds of thrust the latest eurofarce ha...

The privately owned hind seems to have been moved over the past year? I don't remember it being so close to the mock airfield.

Re: Hard times again!

There certainly does appear to be a lack of 'planning ahead' when it comes to 558's future. TVOC seem to take each day for granted & plod along quite happily without anyone looking out to see what might be coming over the horizon, until it jumps up & bites them on the @rse! Should be SNAFU then as ...

Re: Drone Pics

Dervish, I feel it's a real shame you have decided to get nitpicky about figures rather than complimenting the shots and the videos :S 'nitpicky' - not at all. Perhaps you don't think it's important to operate these things within the CAA regulations (a stance I'd find odd on an aviation bulletin bo...

Re: Drone Pics

I was at 400ft, this particular model can go up to 19,000ft! :o The Max Service Ceiling Above Sea Level is 6000m There is nowhere in the UK you can fly it at that height. For most countries you'd have to be at 5880m on take-off to reach 6000m legally (though so far DJI have allowed their software t...

And you are not quite correct. 1. licensed broadcasting stations; 2. Amateur and citizens' band radio transmissions 3. Weather and navigation transmissions The first 2 are irrelevant to this but number 3 is not. Air traffic control is a system to provide safe navigation of aircraft between points. ...

Re: Best Binoculars

In no way is this an endorsement of aldi or items they sell but whilst looking for something else I have just noticed that in next thursdays offers there is a spotting scope and some binos. Given the prices, £20 each, they are probably worth a punt?

Re: Best Binoculars

"Best" is not a sensible word to use - if it was then all replies would tell you the same thing "buy Swarnikcanex bla x blah". Forgetting brands and going back to basics for a moment. I use 8 x 42 bins. The first number is the magnification - ie. how much bigger the subject will look than it would w...

Re: BBC 2: Britain's Ultimate Pilots: Inside the RAF

Such a shame that the narration completely ruins what would otherwise have been a good way to spend an hour. There's enough time for the other episodes to be edited with narration that is in keeping with the subject.

Re: Entry level camera for teenage daughter?

Her reason for Canon was it felt better and no other influence was put to her. This is FAR more important than the badge on the front. If she finds the camera comfortable in her hands she'll find it easier to use and then be able to concentrate on the creative process. As for glass...what does she ...

Re: Southport Airshow 2015

Sadly rumours suggest the Flypast over Widnes Bridge is cancelled (See NWAN). If you do want maximum number of people to see it, would seem obvious to route South of Man TMA and toward HAW before then turning North up the Mersey ! Announced on VttS website late yesterday afternoon that it was cance...

Related to this. The tin triangle will fly over the Runcorn/Widnes bridges at 13:40 as a salute to Roy Chadwick (who was born in Farnworth) then meet up with the sparrows as they come back from Kleine Brogel. Reds continue into Warton and triangle pootles about over the beach at Southport.

Would it not have been better to retire it to somewhere like Manchester alongside Concorde? A stones throw from Woodford ! AVRO Heritage have a tin triangle outside at Woodford and the aviation viewing place at Ringway is already becoming stupidly expensive as car parks go. Part of the plan for thi...

Glad you were able to get your dad over to see them. I imagine the view of Vera (in particular) was good from the dunes as she waited for Thumper to clear the runway.
