Re: Tactical Fighter Meet 86 - Waddington

Thanks for the appreciation guys. As for the parking the only places within walking distance I can think of would be either the village of Bracebridge Heath at the north end or the back road (B1178) at the south end. We decided to avoid the hassle (and the Peelers) and forked out the quite reasonabl...

Interesting. I remember them when they operated the Buccaneer. Also were the subject of a great book by Rowland White; 'Phoenix Squadron' which I can thoroughly recommend.

Yes that was cetainly a great afternoon spent wandering round such rare frames. Thanks for the memory jogger.
One of the best Photocalls I was fortunate to attend. The only other one that comes close was the Canberra Anniversary one held @ Wyton a few years later.

Tactical Fighter Meet 86 - Waddington

Given that enthusiasts flock to Waddington twice a year for the Cobra Warrior exercises which involve a couple of dozen jets from a few nations I wonder what they would have made of this event which attracted over 70 jets (incl 12 different types) from eight nations. As this predated the constructio...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Thanks Andy. I'm familiar with that. They actually had their reporter on the exercise in a Jag T2 on the last day. It was from his report that I learnt of the furball over Barnard Castle. It would seem from his report that on that occasion they did the route anti-clockwise.

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Hi there Tiger-G, We're both of a similar mind. I've digitised and filed all my exercise pics as I realise their historic worth. I use an ION Pics 2 SD Film/Slide Scanner which does the job easily to a decent standard. Not expensive and does nt take up much room. You can do 6 negs at a time. Results...

Re: Return of a RF84F Thunderflash in 1988

I've seen and photographed it @ Soesterberg and very nice it is too. It was already a great aviation museum to visit before the recent improvements so am hoping to return sometime and see what they've done with it.

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Not a Mallet Blow Ex but I have to ask whether anyone has any pics of the Tactical Fighter Meet in summer '86? Held @ Waddington the Meet culminated in a huge Strike package (Gorilla) of all the participants which struck Otterburn on the final day of the Meet. It was opposed by 11 Group assets (Ligh...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Those are really fab-u-lous Graeme, esp the German Toom. One of the best Exercise shots I've ever seen. Those German Toom jocks were something else. Caught one once attacking Binbrook over the Lightning decoys leaving the biggest smoke trail you've ever seen. He was really stoking those fires! You g...

Re: Riding in Hueys

Thanks for sharing these with us, absolutely stunning shots of an iconic type. Remember the good days when the RNZAF would send a C-130 to a UK show and sometimes they'd be a UH-1 brought over inside it? Yes. Remember seeing a Kiwi Herk quite frequently. Never a Kiwi Huey altho' occasionally a P-3 ...

Re: Riding in Hueys

Absolutely stunning images there Andy. You need to read former USAF Lt. Col Phil Stinson's contribution to my new Ch.Fenton airshows books. Chopper pilot extraordinaire, he nominates the Huey as his fave! How did you manage to swing such a trip? Or were you actually serving on them? #12 does it for ...

Mallet Blow pics '80s & '91

In view of all the recent posts about the '80s Mallet Blow exercises I decided to delve into my photo collection for pics of some of the participants. Now as the Ranges up north were too far away for me to watch proceedings there the next best option was the participating bases in Yorks & Lincs so i...
