Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

I believe there is some LL going on through the Lakes - I've seen shots of Typhoons past Dunmail Raise over the last week - but the Loop still seems to have no RAF fast jet activity, and the Tornado hasn't been seen LL since January IIRC. Bit of a shame, as it would have been nice to see it going lo...

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

Does anyone have any idea if the Tornado fly past on the 19th, 20th or 21st will fly through the Lakes on the way to or from Spadeadam or the Mach Loop on the way to or from Valley? I was thinking about going to one or the other next week, for some low-level photography but may change it to go to o...

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

I’m interested to know timings & Route (North & Southbound) for the Scotland - Leuchars, Lossiemouth & Tain route for the 21st. As noted above, timings will be published on Monday, but the Station Commander has confirmed on Twitter that route information will not be published. At best, I'd expect s...

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

What timings have they given for Lossie/Tain? Nothing specific so far, just the "morning" window. I'm basing my early start on how busy 23 was for things like the disbandment of XV(R) and the squadron's final sortie - even if the flypast is later in the morning, getting parked anywhere on the track...

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

Early start for us up here then to catch them at Lossie or Tain. Hopefully the "dip" into Tain will be down to at least 500ft - something lower one last time would be fantastic, but given the various confirmations that (for whatever reason) the Tornado is no longer going to be going LL, I doubt a fi...

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

...and in one of the replies, the Station Commander mentions that the flypasts for 19-21 February will be "just 3 very special jets", so I'm assuming that will be the 31 and IX(B) Squadron special tails plus the camo retirement scheme.

Re: Tornado GR Pics, post your best.

Narrowing it down to three is tricky. Even though I've only been visiting Lossie on-and-off for a few years, I've got plenty of Tonka shots. These three might not be technically the best shots, but they're ones which have more meaning to me. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3677/33330228845_5b94078bdb...

Re: Scotnight at RAF Lossiemouth...

Thanks - I'm hoping they'll be back too. From the scuttlebutt I've read, they were happy with how things went last year and that contributed to the decision to return this year, so hopefully this exercise will have gone well enough to justify Scotnight 2019. It'd certainly go some way to making up f...

Re: Scotnight at RAF Lossiemouth...

Cheers! Lucky to have him break earlier than I'm used to with the based Typhoons so he was still within reach of my aging 70-300 :)

Scotnight at RAF Lossiemouth...

I've not been able to get over to Lossie as often as I'd like this year, but I made the effort to head over for a day of Exercise Scotnight 2018 to catch the visiting Swiss aircraft. Wind made shooting for the second sortie of the day a bit tricky, so I didn't catch the late afternoon launches as cl...

Re: Scotnight 2018

Thanks, Al - much appreciated. I'll keep an eye on the forecasts overnight and make a decision in the morning. What's the fencing situation like at Lossie now? I know there was talk of replacing the fence at some points earlier in the year, but is it still possible to get reasonable access at the 23...

Re: Scotnight 2018

Trying to organise another (sadly less frequent) visit to Lossie for the end of the week, and I'm hoping to catch the Swiss. Tomorrow looks like a bust - weather seems likely to deteriorate pretty badly toward the afternoon/evening - so I'm looking at the 30th. Have they been carrying out any aftern...

Re: Scottish International Airshow 2017

Ah! Cheers - will edit it in :)

Will be interesting to see the timings for the various displays - with a lot of repeats, it would be nice to see the flight times changed up for the two days to give a bit of variety.

Re: Scottish International Airshow 2017

Another update and another pair of aircraft added to the display roster - a Boeing Stearman (I think it's the one operated by TG Aviation) and the de Havilland Dragonfly operated by Shipping & Airlines will appear on both days. The display lineup now looks like this: SATURDAY Battle of Britain Memor...

Re: F & F Day 5/8/17

Yes, it does seem a bit excessive but having a look at the 2017 display sequence it seems that the Typhoon will be entering from one end of the display line low and fast and that most of the high-energy manoeuvres will be at either end of the display line with repositioning for various parts of the ...

The initial announcement wasn't particularly clear, and it seemed as though the track at the golf course end might have been off limits. This looks more reasonable, though it does rule out a few of the usual spots.
