Too young, sadly. He did much for the vintage aviation movement in the United States.

Re: Bloodhound SSC

I am usually a supporter of all things British, and I appreciate that progress in most things is important. I have to question though why it is necessary to drive across the sand at 1,000 m.p.h.!!! 748m.p.h. has already been achieved. So to add another 250 m.p.h. is going to cost another £25 million...

Re: Holiday Idea's . . . . .

Years ago, I bet 50 cents in a casino in Vegas. I got it back, so I quit whilst I was even. Not exactly the last of the big spenders. Never gambled since. :) Nice Globemaster 2 on the outskirts of Vegas if it's still there??

CAUTIONARY TALE

Just a reminder about safety when taking pictures. Yesterday, a Cessna 172 left it's overshoot too late, ran off the end of the runway, crossed a road, and hit a group of bystanders, killing 3 and injuring 8. Remember. Undershoot and overshoot areas are for aircraft NOT people. Stay safe out there!.

Re: Holiday Idea's . . . . .

Was in Fuertaventura 3 weeks ago. Very good for civil, but SOME military in the area. Couple of Hercules, Guarda Civile CN235 or similar, some military helicopters All in the air, rather than at the airport. Going again 3 weeks today, so will see what is about with a bit more of a military eye. :)

So nice to be reminded of the lovely Lettice Curtis, who many of us oldies will remember with admiration, and, if not known to youngsters, she will be well worth researching. Many thanks.

Re: Emergency landing for astronauts as rocket fails

I would be intrigued to learn how this emergency landing occurred. There seems to be no news as to how it was achieved. Did they descend to a soft landing still in the rocket, was an ejection system involved, normal parachute exit etc.????. Anyone have anymore info??.

Seriously good times in those days, even earlier for me. So sad to see how things have gone, particularly on the gliding side. :(

I am not a photographer, but I really like what you have done with shot no.3. You have virtually turned it into a painting. I love it!!.

Re: North Weald Movements 2018

Morning Patrick.Naval Historic Flight is still a Centaurus, but the ex=Fighter Collection two-seater [recently sold] now has a P and W . Clue is in the prop. Centaurus has a five blade, P.and W has a four blade. Regards to you and Ann. :)

Thankyou Colin. From the picture it is rather difficult to tell what position the prop lever is inside the aircraft. I bow to your superior knowledge!!. :)

Re: Tutor miss hap

Well, yes, particularly turbo-prop, which this isn't of course. Tutor certainly has a variable pitch prop, but I agree. Blade pitch can therefore be altered, but not fully feathered AFAIK. or can it???

Re: Tutor miss hap

From the angle of the prop blades, it looks as if the engine MIGHT have been still producing some power, otherwise it would be fully feathered. Some lovely big fields in this part of the world, and looks like he got a good one. Practising engine failures keep drivers on their toes!!.
