Re: Base closed?

Funny, we were talking about this a couple of days ago - As I understand it, block leave, where the whole base takes a month off, no longer happens, but there is reduced activity at this time of year, presumably as some of the staff, crews etc take leave during the school holidays.

Re: Aviano f16s hangars

Errm. Oh right...I've just Googled "TAB-Vee's" (and TAB-Vees!), and apparently it stands for Tactical Air Base Hardened Aircraft Shelter.

It clearly doesn't...

(I always thought it was Theater (sic) Air Base - Vulnerabilty? Yes/no?)

Re: Aviano f16s hangars

Don't the Americans refer to HAS's as TAB-Vee's? Although that's probably their own design (Bitburg/Spangdahlem for example)

Pretty sure if you're on public land (or private land with permission), then it doesn't matfer how close to the fence you are as long as you're the right side of it! MOD Plod like to get excited but as long as you follow the rules you should be fine. Cameras might cause a further issue though. 😬

Re: EXP 8x MI A-10

Keflavik or Lajes? This would suggest KEF, looks too far North for Lajes. Or possibly direct to the UK from the US/Canadian East Coast? Re: Yuma Airshow 2018

I can re-phrase, anyone know the story behind the U.S. Army-marked C-27J in Australian camouflage/colour scheme? The notes I have suggest it belongs to a squadron based out of Pope AFB, NC (isn't that where Fort Bragg is too?), known only as "UFC" (anyone any ideas what this stands for?), which see...

3 Wildcats overflew Buxton, Derbyshire yesterday morning at 0910, heading broadly South-West, ZZ393 and 403 were 2 of them on PP apparently, with the 3rd being suggested as ZZ407?

Re: Missing USAF designations

Way before my time you had the C-133 Cargomaster I saw the grand total of three preserved/ stored at: 59-0356 Dover, 59-0527 Pima and 59-0531 at Tucson. There were two at mojave but I don't have them logged even though I have been there several times. The 2 at Mojave are/were (in 1996!) 54-0136/N13...

Re: Landing on Highways

The Jaguar landed on the then new part of the M55, which without look on a map goes to Blackpool ?
It does indeed, and therefore runs within about 5 miles of Warton, where the Jaguars were built, which I suspect is not a coincidence?

Re: Colt memories

Very nice indeed! I remember visiting for an exercise in the early 90's (Central Enterprise, Elder Joust, one of those) and there were 3 RAFG Tornadoes that had lunch-stopped - We got to the crash gate as they were taxying out, dashed into the field and were treated to all 3 of them running up to fu...

Re: Your first ever military spotting trip, where, when etc?

I lived (and indeed still do!) about 15 minutes from Woodford in Cheshire, so I was taken to the shows there from an early age, first one I really remember was when the Galaxy did a fly-by, think that was early 80's but I reckon I'd been going since the mid 70's. First "proper" military spotting tri...
