Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

Seems like some of the moves are akin to "squeezing a quart int a pint pot"....interesting read on Aviano, with the 57RQS having to basically work out of "temporary facilities",with all thier equipment etc scattered about!!....seems the bean counters in charge do not understand the operational side o...

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

As I read it,it will cost some $46m to upgrade Fairford for RC-135 ops....what is the cost of upgrading the facilities at Mildenhall currently projected at????

Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints

Have to agree with many on here who are tending to find "littering" a generational habit! I was on the A40 last week and from a car several places in front of me,was a whole stream of litter coming out of the windows....McDonalds boxes and wrappers etc.....on passing the car it was not a group of yo...

Yes,still along the Thames westbound!....what I heard is that they will route from Isle of Dogs westbound along Thames, towards Perivale and Northolt, whereby they will dogleg north to Northwood, then from there, return back towards Iver to pick up westbound heli lanes again.....info apparently from Nor...

Re: 3 More 319th SOS U-28's @ Mildenhall

Nice catch!....re the HF cables,it looks like they have been secured along the hinge line of the rudder?......it's probable that they may have snapped off on an earlier flight and flailing around they damaged the original rudder....hence the civvy colour scheme one fitted!!

Re: Runway rebuild

According to local papers, the closure and rebuild was going to start in Sept 17 and last 9 months!. However the possible state visit of Donald Trump later in the year, seems to have put the start date back. The runway is apparently going to be deepened/strengthened and levelled out. Not sure where 32...

Re: Boscombe Down

Personally,I still think that 1500,is a huge amount of jobs to service a relatively few "military" aircraft!. If you take all Boeing operated fixed wing aircraft in Europe,(excluding USAF),it would probably not exceed 100 airframes,if that. Not sure how many non US mil rotarys there are in Europe as...

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

Surely one answer to this is a joint RAF/USAF tanker detachment/unit,based either at Waddington or Brize, specifically set up to support both UK/US missions. It doesn't have to be that big a unit, poss 4x KC135s and jointly funded/crewed. For RAF crews already trained to fly E-3 and RJ aircraft it sho...

Re: Saudi Jets

It's very much a case of "perspective".....How many of us still love to see the Lancaster flying at events, but how many of us recall the untold destruction it's forebears created in cities like Dresden and Hamburg when we do?.....Similarly the same must be said for a whole range of a/c.....B52s wrec...

Re: Boscombe Down

Yes,read the article....but isn't that a large amount of jobs, for a purely "military" servicing contract???.....Given that the BA 24-7-365 operation at both Heathrow and Gatwick runs with about 2,500 direct maintenance staff and around 1000 support staff and the BAMC operation at Cardiff has about 6...
