Re: RAF Buccaneers Torrejon AB March 1990
Just had a quick search in the old magazines available in the MSF archive and the WLAG AIR mag for May 1990 lists the following as being seen at Torrejon on 23/3: XT288, XW543, XX889, XX894, XX900 & XZ431 all 12 Sqn

Re: RAF Buccaneers Torrejon AB March 1990
Not sure if this helps, or just adds to the confusion, but I logged 5x Buccaneers on the scanner on the Monday around 3pm (26/3) routing northbound in the Warton area direct Lossie at FL200. Callsign was RFR 24J 3-7 (confirmed on R/T as 5 a/c).

Re: 104's @ Valley 1987
Cheers guys, you can never have 'too many' 104's :thumb: Although this was the last occasion of them turning up at Valley, it wasn't entirely the last I saw of the 104G. The following year at the Lakeheath Open House, I was absolutely delighted to see 23+01 turn up out of the blue, resplendent in t...

Re: Operation Highmast
Does anyone even know what the Unit Establishment (UE) is for F35 squadrons? Personally I think 12 a/c per squadron is way over optimistic, and I'd be thinking it was more like 8 / 9 at a push, on a good day, etc... Which makes the 2 squadrons and 16 a/c seem like a realistic number.

Re: Defence Spending
The carriers and F-35B just look like the wrong answers right now. A follow on order for 48 Typhoon and the intent to switch from F-35B to A should have been announced years ago. There's parallels with HS2 and the sunk cost fallacy, and the longer it goes on the worse it gets.

Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
Wish we did buy more Typhoons and put them somewhere like Leeming to give us a third Typhoon wing. Going back many many years I believe that was the intent, but the peace dividend put paid to that plan. It's actually even more relevant today, since the move of the Leuchars wing to Lossie basing a c...

Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
Unless something dramatic happens like finding £100 billion down the back of the sofa, another UK buy of Typhoons isn't happening. This is an idea of unions at Warton who think they will be out of work when final assembly of Qatari jets ends, but the reality is that Typhoon production is now at ful...

Re: Upper Heyford 2nd Aug 1990
Thanks again, I heard 4 x KC135's (Blue 71-74) outbound Mildenhall to the North at 1100, with Blue 74 heard returning at 1545. Did you tie up any callsigns to serials for the F-111's that day?
