There's a book called The Penetrators by Anthony Gray from 1966 about a loosely disguised Vulcan that flew over the White House on a simulated bombing run to prove a point to the yanks.

Sadly, she won't be brought up with A-10's, Vulcan, Bucc, Harrier, nimrod, Shack, Lightning, Concorde, Victor, Wessex and Gazzelle... She'll never see Church Fenton, Finningley or Locking air days... Hopefully, she'll grow up around what we have left and become a Fighter Controller herself, our firs...

Found what I was looking for. "Saharan dust is made of sand, blunted by many years of rubbing up against other dust particles. It has a melting temperature of around 1350 C. Most turbine engine tgt's are around 850 C. Volcanic ash has a melting temp of around 600 C. it melts all over the cooling duc...

Volcanic ash has a lower melting point than sand. Ash is more likely to build up and glaze onto engine components. Sand is more abrasive but less prone to build up in engines.
