Re: Two Lynx protoypes at HMS Daedelus dump 1991

Yammer, thanks. I think the pic with the caravans may be at Yeovilton with the building in the background? I am more convinced that XW836 was not at Lee. I read off XW837 at the time and other things like the PEE holes tie up for that one. I suspect the other was the yellow rig at PEE when XW837 was...

For my log 26th May 1985, i.e. the year before, I have XW533/AS 208 Sqn as at the show. Mix up on photo cataloguing?

Two Lynx protoypes at HMS Daedelus dump 1991

On 9th April 1991 two Lynx and a Wasp were noted at HMS Daedelus (Lee on Solent) North side. The Lynx were both painted a sort of olive drab green, unlike any camo green. Both were cabs with no booms On one you could see the red colours underneath and the serial had been painted around, XW837 which ...

Re: Ramstein Flag Fast Jet Action

Earlier thread suggested the Turkish are from 151 Filo based from where the A400 came from. Can anyone confirm that please? I have little to no knowledge of Turkish units and bases I am afraid. MTIA Bob

27/03 at 07:50. All Turkish outside (5*F-16, KC-135 and A400) no sign of Romanians, assume hangared.

Re: Log Nimes-Garron 31/5/2024

Kev

Apparently 740 had US civil ID on port side nose in yellow. I did not notice but others in our party did and I only read off 740 from the waste ground by the Sec Civ helicopter ramp.

I see someone has posted log for 28/9 and managed to get of the two Firecats dumped on the other side.

Re: Log Nimes Garons 28.09.24

Thanks for the ID of one of the Firecats. I noticed the reg on top of the wings as we drove out but my photo had a bush in the way and driver did not stop. Did you get anything off the ex DGAC Cessna 310 fuselage after the last hangar?

Re: Log Nimes-Garron 31/5/2024

On 28/09/24 (Istres show weekend) only ten KC-135 outside with 470 being the one not visible. I can confirm Alize 48 still preserved on base. Someone reported 1575 Alouette, did they mean 1075 a F-ZBAF? Unidentified were two tailless S-2’s, they did have registration on folded wings but not read off...

Thanks. The one marked 01008 did have rotor heads but no rotors. The other had less components on it with what looked like a grey torque tube protruding from rear rotor pylon.

Muir AAF / Fort Indiantown Gap GCH-47’s

Whilst visiting the area I called in here last month. New security lodge etc to get in now and view the preserved helicopters, TF-102 and EC-130. I was not aware of the new requirement for background checks etc but was fortunate to be let in unescorted. This may change very soon. On the airfield sid...

Re: MC-130J with ID taped

On 31st May there were six in a row with one taped over and no serial on the nose either.

The other five were 05937,05941,25759,65839 and -5778. So 05937 had regained its identity by then.

Re: Wasp XS463 or XT431 Weston Super Mare 1990

Agree booms can be swapped hence the question. The plate in the pod suggests the ID of boom and pod were the wrong way around but happy to be corrected if someone knows for sure.

Wasp XS463 or XT431 Weston Super Mare 1990

During a visit to the International Helicopter Museum in 1990 I read a Wasp XS463, however there are reports this was really XT431 with the boom of XS463. I read the plate mounted horizontally in the lower cockpit window (port side I think) as F8/565. These plates are difficult to read due to reflec...

Re: Fairford 1987 Chilean Pitts c/n

I was not suggesting which one was right / wrong just there was a difference. No report is infallible to writing it down wrong or typos. Looks like that has been cleared up for which I am very grateful and I will try and get the incorrect versions corrected. I will go with 2232 for 1987 but I now ne...

Fairford 1987 Chilean Pitts c/n

I have a query about the c/n of the Pitts coded 2. BARG quote 2232 but other sources (eg Planebase) suggest 2235. Both of which were Chilean. Anyone able to confirm please and advise the source of info.

Many thanks,
