Re: RAF BINBROOK hangar & flightline tour 5th August 1987
A former Lightning pilot and friend of mine had the code BJ displayed on his jet. This was because his name was John Aldington, or BJ, as he was known. Indeed freebird, I believe as a Sqd.Ldr he also had the distinction of flying one of the last 3 F.6's at the end of June 1988 down to Cra...

Absolutely amazing set... Brilliant collection of a fabulous aircraft. The last two photo's are stunning - as good (if not better) as the latest digital images. Thanks for posting. Thanks 3G , lovely shots . XR753 BP was a bit rare , as her pilot [ with name painted on ] was Chris Berners-...

Re: Warning!? Waddington and other airfields
There may be another reason for this timely reminder. First of all, people, over time, forget about the huge energy a modern jet engine produces. Were someone to be injured, and no warning given, MoD o gents might be liable to civil prosecution and damages. If people persist in ignoring the warning...

Hunter on the move
Something a bit different. The following shots were taken and passed to me by a dear old friend Mr. Ken Johnson , M/D of specialist haulage contractor K.D.J.(Haulage) Ltd based in Lincoln. Specialist movements were his forte and this Hunter T.7 XL577 (8676M) was required for a move from the Ground I...

Fantastic, evocative, set, Keith  ‘AR’ Warthogs: they didn’t last long, did they, just like ‘WR’ F16’s didn’t ;) Great to see the Boss Vark :thumb: Thanks for posting :) Paddyboy  Thanks very much Paddy, just found some of those 'WR' F-16Cs too  Hope you're keeping well Best r...

Re: Lakenheath "Excalibur VII"
I went to two or three of these wonderful events, access to the Lakenheath ramp at the end of the exercise was superb. I remember the F-F16 landing at Mildenhall in error, we were up on the hill and listening to the radio. The tower was not at all smug when he said "welcome to RAF Mildenhall". I su...

Lakenheath "Excalibur VII"
The late 80's/early 90's saw a number of USAFE inter unit competitions. Memorable are the 'Excalibur' competitions which I attended at Lakenheath. This one is 'Excalibur VII, staged on 19-21st July 1990. For a couple of days air defence exercises were conducted out over the North Sea with other grou...

Great shots Mark
The Hunter came ott Grimsby inbound. I didn't anticipate it carrying out a number of circuits... really well caught.
I think the Wildcat came in from Donna Nook range.
Hope you enjoyed Louth too

Excellent set Paul
The approach was brilliant as was the general layout .. an excellent job by the organisers.
Saved the usual exodus all the way down to FFD.
I did witness the 'flying chairs and children' aft of the B-1B

Re: CONINGSBY APRIL 1988
Nice to see some F3s once more. CF-18s seem to be mainly in mks of 409 (Nighthawks) Sqn. Unusual that the 'exchange' was with 229 OCU rather than as usual an operational squadron. All Tornado F.2/F.3 crews were 'new kids on the block' so were all still busy working up on type. From my log a bit of ...

Re: RAF BINBROOK hangar & flightline tour 5th August 1987
Good to see XS925/BD - this was the first Lightning to ever land at RNAS Culdrose for the air day in July 1986 - might sound as it's nothing special, but Culdrose only has a 6000ft main runway with no RHAG or barriers and a busy public road not far from the end of the active runway that day! I clea...
