Re: LINTON FINAL GRADUATION

looking at Church Fenton that doesn't seem to have taken off as a business jet venture. Leeds East should begin in earnest soon - CAA approval for GNSS is still in the consultation phase and is rumoured to be online sometime around next spring. They've a huge FBO building which is now externally co...

Re: Great Yorkshire Airshow - Leeds East Airport

The organisers of the Yorkshire AirFest held a public meeting and presentation for residents of the local parishes last Friday (19th Feb). Two thirds of the presentation covered a very comprehensive traffic management and parking plan which looks to introduce multiple entrances to the site with park...

Re: Great Yorkshire Airshow - Leeds East Airport

I don't think it will be called the GREAT Yorkshire Airshow as some guys down the road near Harrogate took umbrage to them using that name (allegedly!). Really excellent event though, thoroughly enjoyed it and was proud to be involved, albeit in a minuscule capacity. Incidentally we parked the C-47 ...

Re: Church Fenton Air Display?

There's talk of a small static display and possibly a flightline walk after the display itself. As far as I'm aware '597 isn't on the roster although they do have 2 Spitfires booked to appear so far. '597 has made a low-key flying visit to Fenton in recent years when it 'slept-over' during an appear...

Re: Church Fenton Air Display?

Now the 26th September. There'll be an official website any time now with all the details, admission is by advance ticket, there are some superb acts booked already with more in negotiation - this is is a pretty big show from what I have seen and should be well worth attending, especially if you're ...

Re: Fenton Fly in

I reckon it will take considerable investment to make it viable but securing the site in the first place was a very good move. Unfortunately it appears to have been almost criminally neglected over the past 15 years.

Re: Fenton Fly in

Hi Ben, there were loads of folk I managed not to bump into, that said, a bit bigger and busier than Breighton! I hear you Linton but I'm thinking big - I want JPs, Spitfires and Mustangs please LOL! The only aircraft sporting military schemes were the Cub and the Bulldog. There was also a Chipmunk ...

Re: Fenton Fly in

It was mad, at one point you could clearly see 10+ aircraft approaching the runway! Real celebratory atmosphere though, fantastically warm hangar too with refreshments and a rather splendid military vehicle display. Some heavier stuff next time please - warbirds and maybe a jet or two!

Re: Fenton Fly in

It was a cracking day, approx 250 visiting aircraft and unrestricted access to all the airfield buildings. Superb. Thanks to the organisers and the airfield owner, Chris Makin.

Jet activity 16th December

Lots of noise above Church Fenton last night, sounded like the same two aircraft (possibly) orbiting the area at relatively low level for 5+ minutes or so. Too dark to see but their red lights were clearly visible.

Re: C.Fenton Sold

I think it is down to the new owner to make his plans known in due course but it would appear that aviation features significantly (rumour of a fly-in being organised for the new year). Interesting times ahead!

Re: C.Fenton Sold

I CAN see it happening, it has more potential than both Sherburn and Breighton for commercially orientated flying as well as the recreational side. Certainly from the whispers I'm hearing the future looks very interesting and far, far brighter than it has for the last 10 years. Bring it on!

Re: C.Fenton Sold

The housing is supposed to be going ahead (although it hasn't been started as yet) - this isn't on the airfield itself and was not part of the recent disposal/sale as far as I know. Yes, the airfield has been sold, I believe that the new owner is an empathetic aviator - time will tell! They've switc...

Re: XH558 at Elvington

Nice pictures. It visited Breighton for a display practice prior to the appearance at Elvington - we could see it turn and run-in for Elvington in the distance! Shame Sunday's weather was so appalling, I planned to get over to the LMA show to see the Vulcan and the Reds but it was all but cancelled.

Re: Activity - no-one visits any more?

There were Tucano's in the vicinity of Lake Coniston on the Friday before the bank holiday - saw a couple of aircraft (may have been the same one of course!) but heard it/them on numerous other occasions during the day.

A mate of mine with a better view of the airfield 'saw something hovering' over the airfield last night, we heard aircraft noise but didn't see anything. Would have been around 2300 again.
