Is the RAF that desperate that they are willing to accept any old bodge-up? Why does the UK seem to buy 'cheap' but ultimately pay more for their procurements?

Re: Top fighter

I'm pretty sure the F35 is a classed as a fighter. JSF? JSF was/is just a catch-all name for the overall project and the roles the F-35 will undertake, however, it's primary role is NOT that of a fighter, don't let the 'F' prefix in 'F-35' fool you into thinking that it is, think F-105, F-111, F-11...

The F-22, that's what it's designed to do and it's primary mission, the F-35 is NOT a fighter...

Re: Pigeon chicks rescued from HMS Queen Elizabeth by FAA

What a bunch of miserable sods! 'Waste of fuel, blah blah blah...', 'Vermin, blah blah blah...', 'What about crew hours, blah blah blah...' It's a good news story for the Royal Navy that the public most likely will lap up, which equals good PR for the RN. Fuel won't have been wasted, neither will cr...

Cottesmore had a period on care & maintenance in the late 1970s before TTTE moved in - I'm hoping for a repeat some day soon for some Red aeroplanes...
Cottesmore is still active, only it's now called, Kendrew Barracks, and the Army are the current tenants...

Re: Eurofighter - accidental missile shot.

Regarding the shoot down of Jaguar XX963 by Phantom XV422, as well as the Master Arm switch being taped over, which it wasn't, there was also a circuit breaker in the rear cockpit related to the missile firing circuit which was supposed to have been pulled but, it was thought it was possibly faulty ...

Re: Does the RAF F35 have a gun?

I have read them (in my office seat, not an armchair) The fact is, if you stand still you get left behind, and there is nothing comparable available. What do you say we should buy instead? I'm not really sure why you think what type of chair and it's location is relevant to where you read the DOT&E...

Re: Does the RAF F35 have a gun?es

Grossly over budget? No... the cost of an F35B is equivalent to the cost of a 737 Max 200, and the third the price of a 777-300ER... Underperforming? No... If you seriously believe any of what you wrote above, you must be living on a different planet to the rest of us! And there's that staggeringly...

Re: Does the RAF F35 have a gun?

Dazza , any info otherwise. I always thought hanging stuff on the outside of a stealth platform would negate any advantage. Correct me if I am wrong with any info you may have. Yes, Scott, hanging external stores/fuel tanks on a LO aircraft increases it's radar signature, It's also pretty obvious t...

Re: Tempest - Britain's new stealth fighter

I wish people would stop saying that Tempest is just Replica renamed etc, it isn't, it looks nothing like Replica! Replica was a LO research tool and Tempest is a mock up of a proposed future aircraft, the two are linked only by the fact that they are both LO designs from the same company...

Re: Performance take offs

It’s not really a fast jet thing to perform de-rated take-offs to preserve engine life. I’m not totally familiar with the Typhoon but each take off (unless it was a formation t/o when the leader would not use full power) was at full power in every military type I’ve flown so I can’t see that it wou...
