Retirement

I have just been reading a article where the US airforce is looking to submit plans to retire all the older engined F-15e's by 2028. Can anyone else shed some light on this.

Runway

I don't suppose anyone on here knows when will Lakenheath require a new runway. It must be getting pretty worn I know they had periods of patch ups.

Drone

Is there someone on here who knows a bit about drones. I was thinking about the protests in the UK last weekend and was wondering would it be possible to deploy a drone or several equipped with a spray system. What it would do is spray permanent dye onto rioters allowing police to identify trouble m...

Re: Defence Review Overview

Didn't the UK recently sign up to a European medium lift helicopter to replace both merlin and nh90. Also I think the RAF will be looking to the new trainer being developed in Anglia the one with changeable wings.

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

I wonder if the recent runway issues at Lakenheath, and the easy divert of those airborne F15s into Mildenhall, plus the Subsequent continued F15 operations out of Mildenhall over the following days also helped the decision at all? If Mildenhall was no longer there, where is the next official alter...

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

Quite a few years ago there was a failed planning application at mildenhall to buy the land where the road goes round the back of beck row and west row. This was with extending the runway in mind I wonder if they will try again. They did offer to relocate the road.

Re: New helicopters

My only concern is if the US decides on more tilt rotor aircraft to replace other legacy types one do they become too expensive for the UK government to order enough replacing airframes and two regarding naval operations on aircraft carriers they are fine but are they too big for operations on small...

Re: New helicopters

Chances are the puma will probably be retired without replacement but letting the out of service date creep up on the merlin would be a massive risk especially for the Navy. And personally no we don't have to many helicopters sometimes the Chinook is to big and noisy for some jobs and the wildcat is...

Re: New helicopters

Both variants of merlin are to be retired in 2029-30 which when considering how long this country takes to purchase items isn't that long.

New helicopters

with the Puma not having too long before it retires and the merlin also having 10yrs left what do people think will replace these. Will it be a new version of merlin or something else, I don't think we will opt for the osprey as it is too expensive.

Possible combined airshows

Do you think with dwindling budgets that a possible merger of RIAT and farnborough into one show would be a possibility. Hold it at Fairford and have the trade show during the week and public weekends
