Re: RAF Ranges

The ranges are very "hit and miss" nowadays. I would certainly say that if you intend to go, go for the whole day as I have been for mornings with nothing turning up, left to go to Coningsby so I was almost guaranteed to see something and got home to find out all the action on the range was in the a...

Re: Cobra Warrior F-15s

Very nice, were these taken at the 02 end or they took off from the 02 end and these are from near the viewing area?

Cheers

Re: Ex Cobra Warrior parking restrictions

I kind of agree with Lee on this one. The WAVE is there for free on any "normal" day but not whilst this ex is going on. I don't remember anyone having to pay when the ACMI exercises used to take place and that used to involve alot more aircraft than what will turn up for this (I know, there's less ...

Re: camera bag needed

I have to be honest, I went cheap on my bag. Purely because I won't be using it out in extreme weather and I'm a tight wad 😁 (the one I have should be good enough in fairly heavy showers but I never risk it). I got mine off eBay for £31.99 including postage. It is a large ortex bag. If you type 3526...

Re: Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens?

Hi 633 squadron, thanks for your quick response. It is indeed the sport, that has put my mind at rest a bit as it just feels better using push/pull method. Probably more the fact that I have had the 100-400 for so long so it would be harder to get used to the twist again after being used to the push...

Re: Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens?

I used my sigma 150-600mm at shuttleworth yesterday and got some pictures that I am very happy with just by looking on the camera screen (may be different once on the computer). I do feel it will take a little while to get used to the lens whilst using slow shutter speeds as it is quite a bit heavie...

Re: Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens?

I am going to be testing the lens next week at shuttleworth, I just had to get out and use it before riat. Hopefully get some good practice and good pictures. Reheat module, I know it didn't take me long to make my mind up after the original post on here but believe me, I had been thinking about it ...

Re: Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens?

Thanks for all the replies on here. I have just been and picked up the sigma 150-600mm sports lens for what I think was at great price at £999. Not had it out the box properly yet but looks like a great quality lens well built and very sturdy. Can't wait to use it at riat now.

Cheers

Re: Best locations outside RIAT

Hi, personally I think your best view from outside now is totterdown, there was rhymes farm until a few years ago which I would say was on par if not better than totterdown. Townsend is ok if you are happy with landing pictures (if the wind is favouring that end) but for the actual display it was a ...

Re: Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens?

Thanks for your input reheatmodule, I'm also now thinking if I'd be better off with the zoom lens because if I go out spotting on a normal day whether the 500mm would be that practical using it a coningsby or waddington for example. Maybe it would limit me too much on a normal day as I know I would ...

Re: Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens?

Thanks for your reply supra very interesting read on sensor size so thanks for that. I have a 7d and my pictures are mainly just for my enjoyment but I have also sold a few in the past. I did think that with the 500mm it could make for some more interesting shots but could also be limiting for some ...

Re: Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens?

Hi John, I will have a look into the tamron, do you have one? If so how do you rate it? I have read a few different things about the sigma 150-600 and there seems to be lots of great photos being taken with it so I may well end up with a zoom over a fixed. Plus its way cheaper and if I can get any p...

Re: Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens?

Hi, thanks for you reply. I have looked but for 2-3days it was around £200-£250 so would take a good chunk of what I have saved just to test it. I don't have any issues with the weight, just whether it would be worth spending the money on it. I have the mk1 100-400mm at the moment, was looking at th...

Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens?

Hi, just wanted to hear peoples thoughts on the Canon 500mm f4 is mk1 lens. I am looking at getting one second hand for around £2500.Before I do go and buy it, Is it worth the money and would I regret buying it? Have been undecided on what to do for a little while but know this is the place to help ...

Are there any displays happening today like they did yesterday? Or is it just the daks leaving later?

Re: FM F16's into Lakenheath 5-5-2019

Thanks for the replies, think I may just head to lakenheath through the day and maybe holbeach on the way back home as it appears there's a notam that holbeach is open late until around midnight, so chance to see the f16s at lakenheath and maybe some bonus range action. It could well be that holbeac...
