Re: 27-03-2024

That weather will be at the airfield by 10 and then take a couple of hours to clear so maybe another delay. Although that type would be able to depart in bad weather if needed.

Re: Mig-23 down - Thunder over Michigan

There is (or was) only one flying Mig-23 in the US, so must be the same. Are there still any Mig-23 flying anywhere? Maybe in Africa? North Korea, possibly Libya. I think Cuba still operates a few, but they must be ripe for retirement soon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikoyan-Gurevich_MiG-23#Oper...

In one of the photos it looks like a GR4 centreline pylon has been fitted to an SU-24 wing root pylon allowing for carriage.

Re: RAF Hercules C-130 Retirement

The trolling above asking what seems to be quite a concise question isn't really necessary.

Perhaps the quote regarding the C-130s capabilities the A400 cant cover could suggest its service life may be extended. Time will tell..

Re: Cobra Warrior 23-1 Discussion

I just popped up to the Harmston layby very briefly and there was space for at least another 8/9 cars. On google maps street view this lay-by is coned and taped off. To help prep for my near 4hr journey on Monday is this lay-by currently open whilst the ex is on in case i miss parking the WAVE? Tha...

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread

Anyone else notice the Greek F-16 turn over the crowd in afterburner at Eastern end on Friday morning when practicing? Presumably a bit wide when getting bearings for display line and a small warning inbound.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread

I know not everyone will be happy unless a Madagascan MiG-21 (they really did exist) and a USN A-7 do a pairs A2A demo, but i'm happy with that line up given the current world situation. Thanks RIAT.

BAF F-16BM

BAF F-16BM FB-21 currently at a steady 2500 ft flying around between Fairford, Brize and Oxford. Flew almost down Fairford centre line on its second pass near town. Also doing approaches at Brize looking at ADS-B.

Wind looks like runway 27 do we think, or 09 because fairly light so they dont have to back track?

Brilliant set. They are good shots and not being 'pristine' (thats not a criticism) just makes me feel more like i'm back there then, but now :)

Re: Which is noisier?

Its more about depth of the sound and physical power than the decibels I think. The F-35 may give less db, but it has more ground shaking ability (power) which hits you physically.. often in the chest or just on the deep edge of frequencies we can detect, making it appear 'louder'.
